I sure hope so. Vonage has such a tremendous feature set, yet Selective Call Blocking has been on the forgotten wish list from the beginning. (even though all major telcos have offered it for years)

Everyone has their own wants and needs.... in my world, just give me CallerID, Call Waiting, SimulRing, and Selective Call Block, and I'm a happy camper.

I am assuming that you know how to export your contacts, then just import that file.

I found it kept on stating, importing.....importing....importing.

I opened the contact list in another tab and it was there.

Same problem. I checked and they are there, twice. Thanks

I set up the speed dial, but couldn't get it to work, need a 3 digit number and can't end in 11, which I made sure of.

Also couldn't click on a number in the book and make a call.

Given that you need a place to store the numbers for Selective Call Control, ContactBook is the first step towards this. Features like that take time, and I would rather get useful pieces out to you all first then wait until it's feature complete.

Why have the telcos been able to implement selective call blocking for years without an address book?

Why can we enter a list of forwarding numbers, or a list of SimulRing numbers, without an address book?

And yet we cannot enter a simple list of "do not accept inbound calls from these numbers". That sounds like more of an excuse for delay in implementation, than an actual reason.

are we going to have to PAY for selective call blocking if its included into "contact book"?

come on man, its not that hard. I'm sure you could pay someone in India $50 to write the code for you. Rolling Eyes

actually, a first year CS student could write that code. you don't even need a true database, you could use flat text files. Evil or Very Mad

Shhhhh, don't give them any ideas. My AT&T CV line has Selective Call Blocking, but they charge $1.99/mo. for it. It's nothing more than a "because we can" fee for a popular/desirable feature.

True.

Yeah, but for 2 million users that would get really ugly, really fast, regardless of how well they were hashed. But we agree in context, this is not a difficult assignment. If you can make decisions like:

* If a call comes in, forward it to XXX-XXX-XXXX.
* If a call comes in, also ring XXX-XXX-XXXX simultaneously.
* If a call comes in which is anonymous, reject it.
* If a call comes in during do-not-disturb time, send it to voicemail.

:: then certainly they could EASILY add:

* If a call comes in from [list of numbers], reject it.

PostPosted: Sun Dec 23, 2007 9:09 pm    Post subject: Is Contact Book going to cost extra $$$? Reply with quote Back to top

I am currently awaiting an invitation from Vonage to be a alpha tester for the Contact Book feature. One user in this thread, who says he is already an alpha tester, says that selective call blocker looks to be included with Contact Book, "once you log into Contact Book, you can see it is coming due to the address book part of it". http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic2847-0-asc-90.html

My only concern right now is the wording of in the description of the Contact Book feature, "Vonage® ContactBook is an innovative communications center that allows you to have more control over how, when and where you communicate with your friends and family. From simple contact management to group calling, ContactBook will transform the way you think about your phone service. And best of all, while in Alpha, ContactBook is included with your Vonage service at no extra charge. Calls made using any of the features of ContactBook enjoy the same great rates as your other Vonage calls".
The part that says, "while in Alpha", makes me think that it is only going to be free while it is in the alpha phase. I like what Contact Book offers but honestly the only thing I will probably use is the selective call blocker feature, if it really has this capability. I will be a bit annoyed if I have to pay extra $$$ for a group of several different features that Contact Book appears to come with and only use one. As far as I know all of the other Voip providers give you selective call blocker for free included in the basic price of your plan. I hope that Vonage will take that into deep consideration.

yeah, but they wouldn't even need to hash anything. filename = phone number.txt. no lookup, just open the file.

anyway, yeah, its really silly this feature hasn't been available since inception. Rolling Eyes
