Hey ya'll,

(I'm new to this forum, and I'm not sure of the correct area to post this question. So, I posted it in the Hard Wiring section as well)

I'm new to this forum here, and new to Voip technology. I need some suggestions from some of you that know much more that I do!

I am opening up a business soon that will consist of 6 to 8 employees. Each will need to have their own individual phone lines for high outbound call volume and moderate inbound call volume. I need to have one main number for customers to call in to. Calls to the main number need to simultaneously ring on all phones in the office. If line #1 is in use, then line #2 needs to ring. If lines #1 and #2 are in use, then line #3 needs to ring, and so on.

What type of services, features, and hardware would I need? Also, what are the best phones for use with this type of setup? Most multi-line phones that I have looked at have the capability of four lines with 16 extensions. Would phones like this work if we have more than four lines?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Each employee will have a phone number associated to them. You can start a business account at Vonage and add all the lines needed. There are a couple of ways from here to handle what you want. One of the features Vonage has is Call Hunt which exactly describes what you are trying to accomplish. You make a "Ring List" and if a number is busy, it will forward to the next in the list. If you want one number for incoming calls, you can add a virtual number which is basically a number used for incoming calls only and points to one of your "real" numbers (you can read the definition on the Vonage website). Hence, the virtual number points to first number in the ring list. Vonage will send you the hardware so you need not worry about that. Just make sure your internet connection can support the lines (basically multiply the # of lines by 90Kbps - this is only for voice so make sure there is more bandwidth for data). In terms of phones, each adapter Vonage sends has two phone ports (each represents one line) and that is what you plug the phone into (phone lines in this case).

I wouldn't look to Vonage to accomplish what you are trying to do. They really aren't equipped for that. You really need a PBX system, look into Asterisk if you want to take the Voip route. You will also need high bandwidth, hope you have it.
