I am trying to help a friend set up a wireless print server at her house. She has a cable modem connected to a Vonage wireless router (a Motorola VT2542, I think). Her printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 925 with a USB connection. With this router and printer, is it possible to connect a wireless print server to this network? If so, any recommendations?
Thanks |

In general yes this should work with the devices she has.
One note on the printer because I have no idea what that model is.
Most All in one printers (printer, fax, scanner) will NOT work from a print server, wired or wireless. Many will work just as a printer, but the other functions will not work. (The one bad exception I know to this is that most print servers don't seem to work at all with the Dell All in one printers)
The Vonage router should work fine, what I would focus on is getting a print server that supports Epson printers. Even this is hard, but don't let it bother you too much. They only list a small set of compatible printers, because these are the ones they actually tested against.
I personally use a wired D-Link print server, but for no reason other than it was in sale when I needed one. Any of the major brands (Dlink, Linksys, Netgear) should work.
I would recommend that you buy it at a local store so that it is easy to return if it doesn't work for you. |
