I just bought a Linksys wrtp54g router last week. It according to the web interface has a firmware of 1.00.18.

My problem with this router is that it is locking randomly. There will be times where my internet connection slows and all the pages start timing out. When this starts to happen, I lose dialtone. If I unplug the power from the router to reset it , its fine again. For awhile. I have had to reboot this modem around 10 times since Saturday night when I got this router.

I read of many others having issues on Newegg.com with this router. Vonage is telling me they have their own custom firmware and according to their records, I have the latest firmware.

Also on this roouter, if I go to the status tab and select the Voice catagory, it shows the voice provisioning status. According to that page it says that provisioning failed but yet my Vonage works.

I am under the impression that 1.00.62 is the latest firmware. I know about the hidden Firmware Update page and can get to it but I cant figure out the username and password. Its not the same as the routers default admin username and password. I have tried the tivonpw thing and several others without luck.

I even disabled the wireless in hopes the auto update from Vonage would take and so far no good.

Any thoughts or suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated.

Has anyone else had issues with this router. The only things connected to this router is the cable modem, cordless phone, and laptop connected to ethernet port 1.

I am having the same problem with my router. Also on mine the interfaces on my tivo and PC will go up and down. It's to the point of not being usable right now so I have my pc plugged directly into my cable modem.

I will post back here if I figure it out, I have read that other people are having the same issue elsewhere but I haven't seen a fix. I think it's a hardware problem with the linksys box.

Since I have upgraded to Firmware 1.00.62, things seem OK.

I have read about alot of people having issues with router but I believe the firmware upgrade helped alot.

Go to your routers web interface http://192.168.15.1 usually and look in the upper right hand corner of the screen once you log in and you should see the firmware version....

I have version 5.01.04 on mine. I just read through this thread http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic20687-0-asc-80.html that has tons of people with the same issue. I just sent off an email to the Vonage tech support. If it is true that they have an automatic firmware update going back to the older one may be temporary.

5.01.04 is the latest, and 1.00.62 is the revision before that. Routers that are running the 1.00.20 and earlier have a problem upgrading to the more recent versions due to memory limitations in the router. Generally, turning off the wireless portion of the router for a few hours is all it takes to allow the upgrade to happen normally.

1.00.18 and 1.00.20 were highly unstable, both containing a series of problems with call waiting and caller ID, among other issues. An upgrade to one of the newer firmwares is a must-have.

This used to be a very common problem, and I wrote a step-by-step guide to fixing it in case simply turning off wireless does not work.

http://vonage.nmhoy.net/upgrade.html

I actually emailed Vonage a few months ago and asked them to "downgrade" my WRTP54G to 1.00.62 from 5.01.04. The 5.x releases have a series of issues, one of which is that it scrambles the firmware upgrade account's password so you can't do manual upgrades any more. Unfortunately, since that change, incoming voice has been somewhat scratchy (workable, but not as clear as it used to be, oddly enough).

In any case, if you are just using your WRTP54G as a Vonage device and you have a real router in front of it, either the 1.00.62 or 5.01.04 firmwares should be good for you.
