I have been on Vonage about 4 months. It has been nothing but trouble. Calls being dropped, Phone outages (internets up but when you pick up the phone it says the Vonage device is not connected to the internet) and you can be talking to someone and they cannot hear you. So, I called to check on canceling my service and they want to charge me $49 for one thing and $39 for something else because I want to cancel the bad service I am getting.
Anyone found a way around this? I think it is pretty brazen for them to want to charge for canceling because of a bad product(service).

We have exactly the same Vonage as you and ours has worked perfectly for over a year. Surely this must tell you that your problem is not with Vonage but with your setup or internet provider. Perhaps you should check into that prior to cancelling. Good luck.

When I first got Vonage, I had loads of trouble. It was all caused by an internet problem. Come to find out there was a bad node that was causing the problem. Once the techs found the node and replaced it, my Vonage has been spectacular, except for the outage this weekend.

If you want to find out if it is an internet problem, run the Voip speed test and post the results.

Your Vonage experience will only be as good as your internet connection.

I too was only with them for 4 months and had the same experience. My friends raved about their wonderful connection with Vonage, but I did not have the same experience nor the time to continuously troubleshoot with tech support for Vonage and my cable service. It may have been my cable, but got tired of trying to figure out whose issue it was.
They charged me $205 to cancel, 3 different cancellation fees. yikes.

One suggestion I have for you to get around it is to ask them for their $5/mo low usage service until your one year is up. (i know you aren't technically under a one year agreement, but that is the point they supposedly claim they will not charge a cancellation fee. I'd copy the Terms of Service now though since they may change it) If I'd known about this option, would have saved me quite a bit.
