Post subject: MTU Firewall Router
H
I have windows vista home premium I have a cable modem Motorola Sb 5101 connection through Comcast I use aol 9.1 as my primary online service. What I'm wondering is if I need to add an Mtu value in my registry of 1500. Will haveing that entry and that value for all of my network interfaces increase my speed online. I have heard that if a person uses a home wired router then they should have an mtu value of 1430. Which do you think would work better for me if any. Right now I have no Mtu values in my registry. My next question is my router. It's a Linksys Befsr41 Firmware version 4.3. I have the latest firmware version. Also I only use the router as a hardware firewall. I have only 1 computer. When I go into the routers Ip Address which takes me to the routers settings I noticed that there is a section there to disable or enable an Mtu value. It is disabled by defualt. So when I enable it which I have enabled right now. Should I leave it at the default setting of 1500 or should I lower it to 1430. Which do you think would show the most improvment. In both my router settings and the registry. Also I noticed that my
Vonage
adapter Motorola VT2142-VD has a built in firewall then a Nat setting as well. I'm wondering since I already have the router which is a hardware firewall, would it be safe if I disabled the
Vonage
firewall? Would I get a performance increase by disableing the
Vonage
firewall. I mean the two firewalls could be conflicting with each other. Also the 2 Nat's. Because My linksys router also has Nat Which is enabled.
Thanks Steve
