I have 2 MTA's pluged into my router. We can talk on all 3 lines at the same time with no problems. Just make sure you have enough bandwith to handle it. I have SBC DSL Pro service that gives me 1.5-3mbps down and 394kbps up. Have had Vonage over a year with very few problems. Very rarely do we experiance "choppy" calls, but that was before we upgraded to the "Pro" service. |

Thanks folks! I'm going to convert my wall phone plugs to cat5 (rj45) single ethernet plugs now. Since my phone line willl no longer be used, it makes more sense for me to wire the plugs to the router downstairs in the basement.... |

Why do that? Why not just wire 1 ATA device into your phone lines, and split them off? Rather then putting an ATA at every phone!! (unless you really want a different number at every phone) |

here's my break down.... it sounds funky but it works....
downstairs (gateway) 1. cable modem 2. netgear WGR614 wireless b/g router > computer> linksys Voip (1st voip)> 1st netgear ethernet over power adapter
upstairs 1. 2nd netgear ethernet over power adapter > 4 port switch > motorola Voip (2nd Voip) 2. Linksys WRT54G wireless AP
so, I want to kill the ethernet over power line adapters, would prefer to rewire the phone jacks to ethernet (they are already wired with rj45 cabling, just need to change the face plates) I have 3 jacks upstairs, so the 1st would have the other Voip, the second should have the wireless AP, the 3rd can be left alone for now....
the reason I have 2 VOIPs is cause my wife needed her own system. Otherwise I would've just added her to the fold...
Sounds crazy, but I'm kinda crazy too |
