I’m sure this question has been answered before, but I can’t seem to find it.
I would like to use my existing Vonage box (Linksys Broadband Router with 2 phone ports Model RTP300), and I’m wondering how the configuration works.
Can I plug this directly into my existing wireless router, or do I need to use a switch? I need the wireless connectivity, so just using the Vonage router is out of the question.
Any suggestions? |

You need nothing, just ethernet cables. Best setup is
Cable Modem->RTP300->Wireless Router->Computer
That is what I have for setup and it works flawlessly. (although my Vonage router is a VT2146) |

Vonage routers aren't very good routers. My configuration is:
Cable modem --> Linksys WiFi router --> Vonage router --> phone
I have all of my home network functions handled by the Linksys (non-Vonage) router. I've configured the Vonage router for remote management so I can access its settings from the rest of the network. |

Do you have to do anything else to the router for use as a client on another router? |

If you're putting the wireless first and the Vonage box second, be sure to set QoS in the wireless to favor the Vonage box. Also, if you have computers plugged into the LAN side of the Vonage box, make sure that the subnet addressing ranges for the wireless and the Vonage box are different. |

On the Linksys router go to to the main page (192.168.1.1) and select "Applications and Gaming." Select the "QoS" tab. In the top section, select "Enable," set "Upstream Bandwidth" to "Manual" and enter a value around 90% of your measured upstream bandwidth (such as you'd measure vonage-forum.com/voip-speed-test.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank" class="postlink">here) and in the "Device Priority" section, enter the MAC address of the Vonage device, give it a Device Name something like "Vonage" and set its priority to "Highest".
The MAC address of the vonage box is printed on the device.
Actually, I generally have over a megabit of upstream bandwidth and I don't use high bandwidth appls like BitTorrent so I get great performance with QoS turned off. |

These are confusing instructions to me. Cable to router to router to (oy) WHAT computer?? Going wireless means I'm not hard wired to any computer for me.
I bought a WRTP54g as I was unable to connect with the RTP300, so I guess I connect:
Cable Modem>WRTP54G>Linksys
I'll let you know if it works |

Most people with wireless usually have at least 1 computer wired even with wireless. If not, just delete where it says ->Computer.
