Post subject: [SOLVED] Vonage number in Little Rock, AR?
I just moved to Little Rock and want to change my phone number to a local one so that it's a local call for my work. The phone availability listing and the online change form have the 501 area code, but they don't have Little Rock in the list of cities. I recognized some of the town names but am not nearly familiar enough with the area to know which one would serve me best. Is there an easy way to find a number that will be a local call to my office? Specifically I'm working on the base with a 987 Jacksonville prefix, but my understanding is that Jacksonville, LR and NLR are all local to each other so I'm ok with any local LR number.
Thanks.

Thanks but I'm not sure if I explained properly. I'm aware that Little Rock is in the 501 area code. However, since the 501 area code is broken into exchanges which are not local to each other, it would be nice to know which exchange is local to Little Rock since
Vonage
doesn't include Little Rock in the list of cities.
Hopefully someone who lives in the area can give me advice on which of the following towns are a local call:
Code:
Beebe Benton Cammack Village
College Station Conway Gibson
Gravel Ridge Greers Ferry Heber Springs
Hot Springs Jessieville Lake Hamilton
Lonoke Malvern Mayflower
Menifee Morrilton Mountain Pine
Oppelo Palarm Paron
Perla Piney Pinnacle
Plumerville Poyen Rockport
Rockwell Searcy

Did you look for the cities in the list? Menifee, Morrilton, Oppelo and Plumerville fall in the "479" area code. All the others you listed with the exception of Palarm and Rockwell fall in the "501" area code. Palarm and Rockwell were not in the lists.

I seem to be having a really hard time making myself clear here.
Go to
www.vonage.com,
then availability. Search the 501 area code and you'll see the list I posted are the only cities available for 501, no Little Rock, North Little Rock, or Jacksonville. Every city on that list is in the 501 area code because I searched by the 501 area code.
However, not every number in the 501 area code is a local call to every other 501 area code. Does that make sense? So just knowing the area code of a city doesn't mean I know if it's a local call.
Not an issue for
Vonage
owners but my boss would like to be able to call me from his office without the business paying toll charges.
I'm assuming at least one of those cities on Vonage's list is a local call to Little Rock, but I don't know. I do appreciate your help in looking up the area codes of cities for me, but that's not really what I'm looking for. I'm sure there's a valid reason, but if
Vonage
issues a press release stating that
Vonage
is available in Little Rock, shouldn't Little Rock be in the list of cities on the availability check?

Your complaint is with Bell South, Southwestern Bell.
(28*7+19) * 10,000 = 2,150,000
They’re the ones who won’t let you have one of 2.15 million phone numbers.
http://www.localcallingguide.com/lca_exch.php?exch=011390
Verify the NXX for “work” is one of the 215 NXX numbers listed.
At the bottom of the page you’ll see a list of Rate Centers with local calling to the Little Rock Rate Center. Only Pinnacle and Palarm are support by one of the many third party providers that
Vonage
uses to lease phone numbers. If you cannot get local calling from one of these two Rate Centers then you will probably not get local calling with
Vonage
.
Pinnacle – NXX: 367, 485, 673, 798, 868
http://www.localcallingguide.com/lca_exch.php?dir=1&exch=012210
Palarm – NXX: 483, 734, 803, 851
http://www.localcallingguide.com/lca_exch.php?dir=1&exch=012090
The phone number you get from
Vonage
MUST be one of the 9 NXX numbers listed above or it will not be a local call.

Thanks for the reply and that website. Last night I happened to come across "Cammack Village" on a map. It appears to be smack in the middle of Little Rock, and as far as I can tell its phone numbers are Little Rock numbers. I guess I'll run through the change process again and then check the exchange against
http://www.localcallingguide.com
before finalizing it.
Thanks again.

FYI, just in case anyone else is having the same question, I'll close the topic out by saying that
Vonage
doesn't show which exchange you'll be getting before you press submit, so if you're new to an area and don't know your local calling area you might get stuck with a toll number.
In my case Cammack Village turned out to be right where I thought it was and I got a 501-588- exchange which is a local number for my work.
