Starting the afternoon of Dec. 14th, we started receiving calls from Dialogic Communications (a provider of emergency notification calls). There was clearly a malfunction as the calling number -- wouldn't stop calling me and nobody was there. I would answer one call and...beep...call waiting from the very same number -- over and over again. When I finally figured out who owned the number, I called the non-emergency line of 911 and explained what was happening. This was an intermittent activity over the course of HOURS.
This morning, at approximately 6:00 am Pacific, something is very, very wrong. Even as I type this posting (because I'm not getting any sleep under the circumstances) my phone is ringing. There's no one there. Something, somewhere is now choosing randomly from previous, actual inbound calls to me...and dialing me. The numbers on my caller ID show up as legitimate numbers (such as my cell phone -- but I'm not calling my home from my cell phone right at this moment -- I'm posting this note).
On one hand, the issue may be related to the emergency notification system vendor because once the system has detected that I've left my home phone off hook, it immediately starts dialing my alternate emergency notification number for this physical address.
On the other hand, in the middle of all this, my Vonage modem periodically goes off-line and starts blinking...which then leads me to think that some of the calls on my alternate line are Vonage forwarding the calls to that alternate number -- which also happens to be the number I've set up in the system for when the network is down.
All I know for sure is that my problems started Dec. 14th with the first call from Dialogic Communications -- the service provider for our county's emergency notification system. |
