Very simple question, after 30 minutes of searching there are LOTS of great detailed answers, but wondering if its using a bazooka to kill a fky.
i have a typical out of the box vonage service and router.
i plug in my vtech cordless base unit and all 4 handets work fine.
however i have ANOTHER set of cordless phones, motorola w/ 3 handsets, that i would like to use as well.
i cant addd any more handsets to my vtech, and i'm cheap so i dont want to buy a setup with 7 handsets, so i figured i could just buy an rj11 splitter plug it into the vonage box and plug in both base stations.
i figured wrong, when i do that neither system works,
remove the splitter and either works independently.
i know i cant be the only cheapskate to try this. so short of wiring into my house (wifes not real excited abiut the color blind trying that), anyone have any ideas?
all input welcome.
thanks

Are you sure the splitter is ok? What you described should (will) work. Make sure the splitter is securely plugged in, sometimes it doesn't fit properly because it is too close to the power cord. |

ok, so as long as i know that it SHOULD work, i dont mind spending another $2 on the splitter.
this was the only one target had, so I guess I'll try rat shack.
I just wanted to make sure that there wasnt some sort of voltage limitation on the vonage equipment.
i mean it would have to be VERY sensitive, but i've seen some phone systems in the past that didnt like them.
thanks

I'm a little concerned about two cordless phone systems, possibly working on the same band and channel. They could interfere to the point where neither works, and it would have nothing to do with Vonage per se. If they were different bands- say a 2.4 GHz and a 5.8 GHz- then I'd have no concern with it. |

I've had more than one base (each base "talking" to multiple cordless phones) and it works fine. If they're the same frequency, just have the bases in different rooms (or at least 10' apart) and it should work OK.
Also, if you're in a house that you can disconnect your inside wiring from the TELCO, look at the home wiring section of the forum and just plug the Vonage VoIP adapter in to your interior wiring once you've verified it's cut from the TELCO. Then you can plug your base stations in anywhere you have a jack.
4 wired phones, 2 base stations, 5 cordless phones. |
