To complete my internet setup with Vonage. I need to change the subnet to 255.255.240.0 but when I change the subnet mask in the router it reverts back to 255.255.255.0. Due to this I cannot complete the installation. Any idea how do I go about changing it?
Also, the power light keeps flashing and is not solid.
The ISP says that they can ping my cable modem and the MAC id of the Motorola 2442 Vonage router as well as the ip is registered and all that I need to do is change the subnet to 255.255.240.0 |

Do you have another router in your setup? On your Windows system, open a command prompt window and type in "ipconfig/all" without the quotes. Look for the Subnet mask entry...what address does it give? |

If you can't change the Subnet Mask from within the VT2442, try changing the Subnet Mask from within Windows. Disconnect your VT2442 first and then proceed. The change needs to be made from within the Network Connections located in the Control Panel. After you've made the change, restart your system then reconnect your VT2442. |

I have a cable modem webstar from Scientific Atlanta first, then the Motorola modem which is in turn connected to my computer.
I could directly connect to the net via the cable modem previously but cannot connect using the router in between.
My internet connection requires that I have a static IP and is bound to the MAC of the machine. So, I configured my assigned ip and gateway in the motorola router WAN configuration and called up my isp to register the MAC of my router which they did.
In the LAN configuration I enabled DHCP. I thought these settings should work now, however, I was not able to connect. I could ping the router but not the gateway. The ISP could ping my cable modem but not my router. So I rechecked the WAN settings and realized that no matter how many times I try to change the subnet to 255.255.240.0....it reverts back to 255.255.255.0
Then I changed the LAN settings subnet to 255.255.240.0 and it acepted the change. I can still ping the router and my IPCONFIG /ALL shows the subnet as 255.255.240.0 |

So are you able to get to the internet now and is the power light solid on the VT2442? |

okay! Now I could change the subnet to 255.255.248.0, but I still cannot access the internet. I called the ISP again and confirmed the settings. This time all settings are as they should be.
Funnily, I can access the internet if I connect the wires into LAN ports. i.e. the cable from the modem and the cable from my laptop into the ethernet ports. The phone doesn't work though. |
