Hi All, I've sent Vonage VTech IP 8100 phone adapter to Chennai,India for using it with Airtel Broadband internet connection. My fiancee is using Airtel internet connection through Beetel 220BX(ADSL 2+ MODEM) modem. She has set up VTech adapter behind Beetel modem and followed the instruction exactly as mentioned in Vonage site. After 10 minutes, she observed that VTech adapter's "Ready" light is still in "Red" color instead of turning to green. She turned on the computer to access the VTech adapter settings using http://192.168.15.1 link. But that link is not responding at all..it's saying that the page cannont be found. She has tried so many times and we are stuck at this step. If she was able to access VTech adapter settings, then she would select PPPoE protocol and enter the username and password, then it would have worked fine. I've also sent the same VTech IP 8100 to my parents in Hyderabad, India. It's working perfectly fine with BSNL DSL connection with speed of 256kbps. Has anyone experienced the same with Airtel modem? Is she doing any mistake in the installation process? Please let me know. I've been paying 3 months of bill without even using it. Any help would be highly appreciated. If you need any techinical information, I would be so happy to provide it for you.
Regards, Tarun. |

Are you sure she is plugging the modem into the Internet (WAN) and the computer into the Ethernet (LAN)? |

Thanks for your message. Yeah she is plugging in the modem in the WAN slot and PC in the LAN slot. We got Blue(for Modem to WAN) and Yellow(LAN: for Vonage Adaptor to PC) cables to make the job easy. As I've mentioned in my previous message, the one which I've sent for my parents is working absolutely fine. That's also VTech IP 8100 adaptor. I'm planning to change the Internet service provider of my finacee. Will that help? Will ISP providers have any control over this Vonage adapter setup? |

If she needs to set up PPPOE but cannot log into the router page, make sure the computer is not set for static ip. It needs to be set for DHCP. click start, click run, type in cmd, hit ok. should bring you up to the command prompt. type in ipconfig - it should show the default gateway as 192.168.15.1 - if she gets anything else, then something is not configured correctly. |

Hi, Thanks for your reply. She is not able to access http://192.168.15.1 . I've asked her to run ipconfig in the command prompt. She said that she is seeing 192.168.1.2 as the default gateway. You have mentioned that the computer should be setup for DHCP. Can you tell how can I set my computer for DHCP? How can I check whether her computer has been set for Static IP ? Please let me know. Your help is highly appreciated.
Thanks, Tarun Bandi |

Hi All, Thanks for all your support. Finally I got this working. I've enabled DHCP server in my BEETEL 220BX ADSL 2+ MODEM. It's working now. I would like to add a suggestion to all Airtel Broadband Users of India, please enable the DHCP server if Vonage phone adaptor has not been detected. By default Airtel disables DHCP server option.
Once again...thanking all of you for your support.
Very Best Regards Tarun Bandi |
