International Faxes

I have been trying to fax to Hong Kong for the last week and talking to several Vonage reps, all with different stories, i finally tried to get one of them to send the fax, and she told me that there is an issue with international faxes. From my experiences with tech support in the past, i do not trust that it will get resolved with them so i will post on here for a 2nd opinion. If someone has the international plan and can help me out, i'm trying to fax 011 85221487792 all i get is failed transmission. I would love to stay with Vonage but with all these issues, i have begun to look elsewhere, as with more features and the same price, other Voip is looking more attractive every day.

OK, first step when trying to send a successful international fax, or any fax over Voip is to change some settings on your fax machine to make it more compatible with your internet phone.

Resolution should be standard.
Baud should be 9600
ECM should be turned off

There should also be a setting on your fax machine called overseas mode. When sending an international fax you should enable this feature. This feature is enabled on a per-call basis, so you would have to set it every time you fax internationally.

Also, something that may not seem imporatant, but is when faxing, is to make sure the Vonage device is not plugged into a surge protector when trying to fax. The device could amplify the sound of the electricity. You wouldn't hear this on your end of a conversation, but the fax will try to "read" this.

HP 1240 Fax Machine link to my fax machine

I' m not sure about the international mode, but all that you stated, turn off the ecm, lowering the baud rate, checking the resolution, i have troubleshooted before, the thing is domestic faxes work just fine and the tech support said there was an issue with international faxing. I was hoping to come to this board to see if anyone had any problems with faxing to Hong Kong or that particular fax number.
