F1000G works fine - the battery life is good and it sounds good. It does have problems with WPA in some cases, but if you're not using WPA, all is well.
One thing to note - the F1000G will work with a Vonage soft phone account, but cannot be a primary device on a regular Vonage account (Vonage policy). The only WiFi phone that can be used with a primary Vonage account is the original F1000 (before the F1000G) that is branded Vonage and was only ever available from Vonage directly (never in retail stores). |

A regular Vonage account is the account that you get when you sign up with Vonage - normally their $24.99 "unlimited" or $14.99 500 minutes plans. In a regular account you MUST use only Vonage branded, Vonage registered devices because Vonage does not give you the information that you need to program anything else.
A Soft Phone account is a $10/month "add-on" to a regular account. On a soft phone account, Vonage DOES give you the information that you need to use "any" SIP compatible device or software (any, of course, really means "most").
To get a Vonage soft phone account, you first need a Vonage main account so that you have something to add on to. Alternately, you can get an account with "anyone" that allows "Bring Your Own Device" - which means that they also give you wnat you need to set up the device to use with their service -- same as the soft phone account. |

I have tried several different WiFi phones. My current favorite is the UTStarcom GF210 - WiFi/GSM. It is an unlocked GSM phone that takes any SIM plus it works with any SIP service. If you travel (or if you use T-Mobile or Cingular/AT&T in the USA), I would recommend that.
I would also recommend getting a travel AP (I have a Netgear WGR101, which is available cheap on Amazon - probably because it is obsolete).
For just WiFi, the F1000G works well. |
