At a friend's urging, I signed up with Vonage on 11.26.07. I received the confirmation email on 11.27.07. I received another email on 11.29.07 saying that my number transfer would happen on 11.30.07. And as the email stated, the number transfer did happen on 11.30.07. The problem is that the adapter still has not shipped.

That leaves me with NO telephone service. I'm posting this message in the hope that someone can step up and get me telephone service within the next two business days.

I have called Vonage (Ticket No. 16207480) requesting that Vonage overnight the adapter to me, but I'm told nothing can be done to do that. I don't understand why another adapter can't be shipped overnight and I simply refuse delivery on the one that hasn't shipped yet.

Can someone help me or am I without telephone service for the foreseeable future? My friend is constantly raving about Vonage. He received his adapter a week or two prior to his number transfer. I'd hate to start off my relationship with Vonage in the manner it appears to be heading.

This is not an official Vonage forum so we have no control over Vonage. usually it takes a few weeks to transfer a number to Vonage.

The only option you would have is go to a store and buy an adapter but then you will have 2 of them so that isn't really going to help you.

If you have a Vonage user name, maybe customer support can tell you what it is, then you can download Vonage Talk and use your computer to receive the phone calls, works like Skype you need a microphone and head set.

so sorry about your experience. since Vonage switched carriers, the delivery timeframe has been pretty good. probably because of the increase in sign-ups due to the holidays, there's now a lag in fulfilling orders. what i can suggest is you call up Vonage and talk to an acct manager or even a tech support rep. let them know your concerns and they should be able to give you some form of credits for all the hassle.

what i also know is that they can advise you to purchase a device at a retail outlet and ask you to call back in so they can give you a credit for the amount you paid for the device. you can then add the device to your acct & it should be active within 24hrs. as for the device you'd be receiving, you can simply refuse delivery and it will be returned to Vonage at no cost on your part.

A lesson learned for others is that while you might save $10 by immediately porting your old phone number to Vonage, in practice it's better to call-forward your old service to your (temporary) Vonage number until it's set up and working to your satisfaction. Only then should you terminate your old service and transfer your number.

In my case I forwarded from my Verizon number to my Vonage number for about 3 weeks until I decided that I was going to stay with Vonage. Then I initiated the transfer, which went through as scheduled. Never had to turn off call forwarding from Verizon.
