PostPosted: Thu Nov 29, 2007 2:02 am    Post subject: Disconnect Nightmare, Forum Woes Reply with quote Back to top

The other day I replied to a post on here about what a nightmare it was to disconnect. The individual in the original post finally succeeded in switching service, but complained about the fee (which is agreed upon in the contract--if the customer chooses to terminate before the contract expires, they are liable for the fee--regardless of the quality, or lack, of the service or the level of customer dissatisfaction.)

I have been trying since August to terminate service, but Vonage refuses all requests from the company to which I want to switch, giving excuses of some error in the name or address (which should have nothing to do with the phone number anyway--what if I wanted to change my name and address and transfer the number to the new address?) I mentioned that after numerous requests and pleas to Vonage, I contacted the Attorney General of my state, but so far all I got was an acknowledgement of my claim but no action regarding it.

To my surprise, not only my reply but the ENTIRE TOPIC disappeared from the forum--I don't know how or why--despite a PM request for an explanation from the moderator. So I am posting a new topic.

I contacted my bank manager to ask if she can authorize simply not paying Vonage's bills to my account, but she says she can't override a blanket authorization like that. So I guess I'd have to cancel my credit card as well as my phone number. As I'm unwilling to do either, I am now enlisting the services of attorneys. I will be very interested to see if this post appears on the message board, and will update it when any changes take place.

Since each telephone company only "leases" the phone numbers from bigger companies called "clecs" if the address that you gave your new company doesn't match the address you had with your old company, the big company won't allow you to port your phone # to a different carrier. You need to verify that the address Vonage has matches the new company EXACTLY. This should solve your problems.

It was the same address. One of the companies abbreviated the street name (that is, "W" instead of "West") while the other had it spelled out. We pointed this out to both companies, but Vonage still refuses to release the number.

The whole tread was a violation of our rules:
http://www.vonage-forum.com/rules.html
because the OP was ranting; never seeking any help...

You just got caught up in that.

But, here you are; looking for help. Smile

And help you will find.

Thanks. No word back from the lawyers yet, and I haven't tried calling either of the phone companies again, at least specifically about that.
