Ok Guys,

I have been using a Linksys PAPS for 2 years now. No problems.

Last month, the trouble started. The phone would be "BUSY, then it got to a point were I'd have a dail tone, dail out, but still got a dail tone even AFTER the dialing seq. was complete.

I have a Dlink VTA-VD up on the SAME Router the PAPS is on. DLink works FINE.

I swapped all cables/phones between the PAP2 & the Dlink VTA. Dlink had NO problems what-so-ever. I am convinced the PAP2 is bad.

I've tried to contact/email Vonage Tech Support.. Nothing.. Vonage's Customer Service & FAQ ****.

Question I have is, IF I were to puchase a NEW PAP2 to replace the bad one, will I still be able to use the current number I have now?

Would Vonage need to be contacted in order for me to do this?

Yes, you can keep the same number. On the Vonage homepage you will see a link that says: Bought it at a store Click here to activate. http://www.vonage.com/retail_subscribe/ After you add the new device to your account, log into your online account and move your number from the old device to the new one. You should be able to accomplish all of this without speaking to CS.

Yes, if you purchase a new PAP2 to replace the old one, your Vonage number will remain the same. You can activate the new PAP2 yourself by going to vonage.com and clicking on the link, "Bought it a store activate your device now." Select the second option, "Current customer login Add a Vonage retail device to my account" and proceed from there. Allow at least thirty minutes for the new device to become active before logging in to your web account and moving your number to the new device. After thirty minutes have passed, login to your web account click on the Add-ons tab and select the "Move a number" option and proceed from there.

Thanks guys.... I did not know you could "Transfer" a number from one device to another..


So I should be able to do this regardless of the model of Vonage devices I purchase? (I.e. Motorola, D Link, Link Sys etc.)

Regardless of the model, you can move your number from one device to another.

I would think twice before purchasing a Vonage device off of eBay unless the device is brand new. If you purchase a used Vonage adapter and the device still has a balanced owed on the MAC address of the device, you will have issues activating the device.

Thanks for the advice. I just purchased one local... And made sure the account was closed. I'll report back once I've got everything hooked up and running.
