I canceled my Vonage account a few months ago, and the following month saw I was still being electronically debited for service (which I didn't have). I called back and was told to call another number, and so I called that number, too. I AM STILL BEING BILLED BY Vonage FOR SERVICE I NO LONGER HAVE. It's been months, and they help themselves be debiting my checking account, when the service has been canceled. READ THE FINE PRINT, BEFORE YOU CLICK "I AGREE", WHEN YOU SIGN ON. IT SAYS IT WILL COST YOU $39.99 IF YOU EVER WANT TO CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT WITH Vonage.

Call your bank and tell them that you lost your debit card. They will send you a new one with a new number and prevent any further charges. That will put a stop to that.

Call your attorney general's office and find the procedure for filing a complaint. Send them the email that Vonage sends when you cancel and copies of the bogus charges that they have made. They will get your money back for you.

I highly do not recomend this approach as they will know that it is not the truth since you have used your card since then. I would contact Vonage's account management department to find out what is going on. They will credit your card back. The number to call is 1-vonagehelp which is 1-866-243-4357. Choose the option for canceling.

You call your bank today and tell them that you lost your card today. Then don't use the card again. Simple.

If you want to go the legit route, walk in to your bank and tell someone that there is a company making unauthorized charges and you want your card number changed. Same exact result just takes more time.

You can bet that if I ever want to cancel Vonage the first thing that I will do is close the account that I use to pay them. The only thing that comes out of there is Vonage and they can't get money from a closed account.

The OP said that they did call Vonage and got the runaround. Going the route of the AG works and if the OP actually has their ducks in a row in it is a painless way to get all of your money back.

The only fallback with that is that if they report the card as lost/stolen as of today it would only prevent "future" charges from Vonage - more steps need to be completed to be refunded for "previous" charges.

Rolling Eyes

Right. That's where filing a complaint with the AG comes in. Stop the charges and then get the money back.

IF the OP did cancel and has the email notification that Vonage sends out when you cancel AND Vonage refuses to either give back the money OR provide any assistance at all in getting the money back then the AG will get the job done.

I love Vonage but they are far from perfect. If the story is legit they are wrong and the OP deserves the money back.

Read the fine print in the Agreement, before you click "I Agree". It says it will cost you $39.99 to cancel your account.

My brother has even had trouble with closing his bank account. Not Vonage, but another account was fraudulently charging his account. (Payday loan place, never EVER get one.) They kept charging his account 3 times a day, changing the amount by a few cents to make it a new transaction. My brother had his check direct deposit, and had trouble changing where it was going, as it takes HR something like 2 pay periods or more to change it. He closed the account with the bank. His check would go in, the company would charge him three times, the back would happily charge him 3 overdraft fee's and not let him take out any of his money as the account was closed.

PayDay Loans are just legalized loan sharks, except they don't break your legs.
