The cable service seems intermittent. Service was out Saturday and said they had had some problems "reprovisioning" and with DHCP that they had worked out. Service was good for about 72 hours but yesterday was very intermittent...both cable internet and obviously phone.

Remove the Belkin router and your Vonage device and connect your cable modem directly to your PC. Rerun the test and post your results. |

For what it's worth, I noticed that the outbound audio from my Vonage lines was choppy today...and there is nothing wrong with my internet connections, so this may be a Vonage problem.

Actually, I was just doing some testing on the line, and it sounds fine except when recording a voicemail greeting. When I listen to the outgoing quality on another phone line, it sounds fine. So, maybe there is a problem with the voicemail system...(?)
I did have a few customers who mentioned that they called and got no answer and no voicemail...I tried it myself on that day, and in fact, the line was not rolling to voicemail when busy...it just rang and rang...so maybe this is just a symptom of a larger problem.

Thanks for the replies... I did two tests...
With Router inline:
Speed test statistics --------------------- Download speed: 4029120 bps Upload speed: 490392 bps Quality of service: 65 % Download test type: socket Upload test type: socket Maximum download pause: 364 ms Average download pause: 3 ms Minimum round trip time to server: 33 ms Average round trip time to server: 83 ms
Voip test statistics -------------------- Jitter: you --> server: 48.0 ms Jitter: server --> you: 0.0 ms Packet loss: you --> server: 0.0 % Packet loss: server --> you: 100.0 % Packet discards: 0.0 % Packets out of order: 0.0 % Number of supported Voip lines: 8 Estimated MOS score: 3.5
without Router inline:
Speed test statistics --------------------- Download speed: 626888 bps Upload speed: 492072 bps Quality of service: 8 % Download test type: socket Upload test type: socket Maximum download pause: 3821 ms Average download pause: 190 ms Minimum round trip time to server: 47 ms Average round trip time to server: 69 ms
Voip test statistics -------------------- Jitter: you --> server: 42.6 ms Jitter: server --> you: 0.0 ms Packet loss: you --> server: 0.0 % Packet loss: server --> you: 100.0 % Packet discards: 0.0 % Packets out of order: 0.0 % Number of supported Voip lines: 8 Estimated MOS score: 3.5
Don't know about the download speed on the second test...but that's the intermittent service i've experienced.

Now plug your computer directly into the modem, without either the router or the Vonage box. I'm betting you get similar results. Assuming this is the case, there's nothing you can do except work with your ISP to get their problem solved. There's nothing that you can do with Vonage that will overcome flaky internet service. |

Steve is correct...if your internet service is "iffy," your Vonage service will suffer. |

If you look at your average download pause it is 190 ms and your QOS is 8%. These are not good numbers for quality Voip service. Definately a problem on the ISP side. Call them and have them run a ping test with at least 200 packets. If there is something there, then they will see it right away. |
