Once I have installed Vonage, will I be able to use my answering machine as usual? Thank you. |

it should. do you have a specific reason to believe it won't or are you just asking out of curiosity? |

I have been faxing over my phone line -- thru a ComShare 750 Telephone Line Sharing Device. With Vonage, will I still be able to fax this way? If not, what alternative will I have? (aside from paying for a dedicated fax line). |

I'm not sure where he was going with the fax thing, nor do I know if your line sharing device will work, but my answering machine works fine and when I need to fax, I just unplug the phone and plug in the fax. |

I just realized ur initial question was about ur answering machine, not faxing...but to answer YOUR question, yes, if u want to use your answering machine, you can just disable or deactivate your Vonage voicemail. As far as the fax issue, brought about by my not paying attention to what I was reading, it is possible to fax over the voice line, but it not recommended or supported by Vonage. Faxing requires optimum line quality than the voice lines, and if we ever had to tweak ur voice line in a manor not conducive to faxing, then well...u wouldn't b 2 happy. And just for everyones info, software-based fax programs, such as Winfax Pro or eFax, do not work with Vonage. |

Is this true even with a Vonage fax line? Also, eFax is an Internet based fax service; doesn't have anything to do with Vonage so that will still work. But I was curious to know if Winfax Pro or other software based faxing programs that use a modem will work with a Vonage fax line?

For your information Maaz, eFax does also come in a software version, which is the one I was refering to. But I answered your question in my last message. |

Okay, that's good to know. Vonage fax lines do not support fax modems, only fax machines.

My computer's internal modem can send faxes over my Vonage voice line. I use the fax software that is provided with Windows XP. (If you use Windows XP, you can install the fax software from your Windows XP CD.) When I want to send a fax, I just plug a phone cord into the computer and use the software. |
