I requested my number be ported WAY BACK in May. The work order has said my port is complete since June, but apparently they are having an issue in getting my number from my old provider. I'm at a point where I don't want to port anymore. Can vonage just cancel the port administratively so that, at some point in the future, I don't end up with a magical port completion when I don't want it anymore? |

Hi newalloy,
This can definitely be done, all you need to do is contact Vonage and advise them that you no longer wish to transfer your number.
On the other side, if your number transfer has taken this long without completing, most likely your previous provider is rejecting the number transfer and refusing to release the number to Vonage. Usually this is caused by the name or address not matching what is currently on file for you.
The LNP process between companies is highly specific and any discrepancies will result in a failed or delayed transfer. I would recommend contacting your previous provider and determining what information you have on file. Once you have that you should ensure that the Vonage LOA has exactly the same information. This will ensure a timely and successful transfer.

Well, a few days before you posted your reply to my message, I was talking with a manager from their LNP department. They let me know that they only have agreements with certain providers for the 306 area code. Rogers is allowed, as is Telus (I believe), but SaskTel and Access Communications do not have the LNP agreements with Vonage. Apparently, at the time I attempted my transfer, the agreement was close to being complete, but fell through, and therefore I was caught in the middle. Vonage's systems considered the port complete, however it never was. The manager let me know that there are about 250 people in the 306 area code that they have yet to notify of this issue.... It took me MONTHS to get the answer... you'd think they could have let the hundreds of people know their ports will likely NOT go through. They may not have these agreements for more than another year. This bites, but at least I know my number isn't caught in the middle of anything anymore. I no longer am a subscriber to vonage in any sense. Their piss poor communication will keep me from every being a customer again too. |

I thought if Vonage provides service to your area code and also your part of the area code then any number is portable.
I live in the 613 area code, but my part doesn't have service, therefore my number wasn't able to be ported so I chose a phone number in an area code where my family lives on the east coast. |

That's what I was led to believe as well. Even up until now, you can put in a 306 Regina number that belongs to SaskTel or Access Communications, and Vonage's website will tell you that the number is portable... even though the LNP technicians and managers are telling me that in fact, no... transfers are not working from those providers... and haven't been all year! |

just dump the number and get a new one, that is what I did and I don't get any tele-markerting calls. |
