I know this is not the "normal" way to do it, but is it possible to connect my Vonage router (VTech IP8100) to a free ethernet port on my Netgear WGR614 wireless router?
I tried just hooking everything up, and while my other laptops can see the internet via the WGR614, the Vtech router can not. I also can not see the Vtech router from the Netgear setup screen that shows all connected PC's but not the Vonage router.
What I am trying to do (I know it is not typical) is :
1. Modem connected to the Netgear wireless router WGR614
2. Vonage (VTech IP8100) connected via ethernet to the Netgear
3. Another laptop connected to the net via the Netgear Wireless (working fine right now).
How can I make the VTech router "see" the Internet via the netgear router?
Is this even possible?

That's a perfectly acceptable way to connect your devices.
1. Did you connect the "WAN" port of the Vtech to the Netgear?
2. Did you use a crossover ethernet cable to do so? |

Switch-to-switch connections need a x-over cable. Some switches may have one port that has an mdi/mdi-x button which will do the x-over for you. Some switches may auto-detect mdi/mdi-x. All others, you'll need a x-over cable. |

Well, I went out and bought a cross-over cable, reset everything, powered up - and still I get the blinking yellow lights. No connection though the Netgear router.
Now I'm bummed.
The Netgear is working fine and when I remove the ethernet cable from the Vonage router and plug it into my iBook it connects to the net just fine. So why won't the Vonage VTech router see it?
