Post subject: Please don't dial the number 1 : Some incoming callers hear
I recently ported my number from SBC over to
Vonage
. It took just about the exact time they said it would. And everything is working great except for one thing.
A few people calling my phone say they are unable to connect - rather they get a message saying please don't dial the #1 -- and never can get through. They say they dial my number with no 1, with just an area code, etc -- and they still get the same message.
I called
Vonage
tonight. Their recommendation was have the people who were not able to get through file a trouble ticket with their carrier.
Now, that seems rather impractical -- since I have no way of knowing who can and can't get through!
I have my phone service setup so that it rings in two places (my home and cell).
I've tried taking the 1 and area code out of the phone number I put in for the forward number -- and
Vonage
always pops the number back in there.
The confusing thing is some people can get through just fine. Just not others. I'm thinking it's something with an exchange and also that it's cheesy that
Vonage
doesn't take any responsibility or have any way to diagnose it. When I spoke with the representative on the phone she sounded like she'd heard of the problem before -- almost as if it were a pretty common occurence.
Thoughts or suggestions?

It might appear as though it's impractical but the problem lies in the origin carriers switch not vonages, so the only way to have the problem fixed is to have the origin carrier fix their system so it properly connects to CLEC's switches
