Post subject: No need to use a separate router...
Don't add clutter to the mix...less is more, esp when you're on the go. Here's what I posted in another forum. Hope this works for you!
This can easily be accomplished by going into System Pref > Network and configuring the network for the airport and ethernet interfaces. Make sure to do it in this fashion (here's my personal configuration).
Airport Card:
IP: 10.65.100.100
SM: 255.255.255.0
GW: 10.65.100.1
Ethernet Card:
IP: 10.65.200.1
SM: 255.255.255.0
GW: 10.65.100.100
It's interesting to note that OS X allows you to add a default gateway OFF of the same network broadcast domain. It accepts this as a route pointed to the interface. See below; this is my netstat -rn output from the command line.
10.65.200/24 link#4 UCS 1 0 en0
Now you have to set up your interface preferences. THIS IS IMPORTANT IF YOU WANT THINGS TO WORK!!!! Go back to System Pref > Network and click on the "Advanced Gear" next to the + and - icons. Choose "Set Service Order". Make sure that Airport is 1st, and make the Ethernet connection 2nd.
Ok, once you have that go to System Pref > Sharing > Internet Sharing and share your airport connection to your ethernet adapter. That will get you going and your mac is completely set up. Now onto the phone part...
Make sure to set your phone up at this point. Make the IP Address 10.65.200.X (in my case, I just used 10.65.200.2), and set your default gateway as the 10.65.200.1. Your all set now. Hope this helps!
