PostPosted: Thu Oct 25, 2007 2:21 pm    Post subject: linksys WRT54G, how do i set it up with vonage? Reply with quote Back to top

Hi all,

I posted earlier about the netgear router but i guess no one knows how to get that done.Bought a new wireless router.ran the installation cd. i now have a wireless connection that says it is connected to the internet, the signal is excellent but cant open anything on the web.

Here are the specs:
Router : Linksys WRT54g
Connection type : Broadband
modem :220BX ADSL2 + modem beetel
in the status of the connection it says it's connected to :Intel(R) PRO/100 VM Network Connection

and my Vonage doesnt work because i disconnected the previous linksys router to try and get the new router to work. so my problem is - can i configure this router so i can get my Vonage up and running and have wireless at the same time?

I'd really really appreciate some help. HELP!

Hi soul,
What we need to do is check some connectivity. First, run ipconfig /all from the command line and make a note of your ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway address.

1) Go to the command prompt and type "ping localhost" without the quotes->Press Enter. What happens?

2)If that works, try pinging your router by going to the command line and typing "ping defaultGatewayAddress" without the quotes (and where you substitute the words "default gateway address" with the IP address. What happens?

If step 1 was successful and step 2 was not, try double clicking on your connection in the system tray->select the Support tab, and click "Repair". Then try to open your browser and type in www.yahoo.com. Do this step even if the repair wizard tells you that your connection could not be repaired.
Post back with what happens.

hi abera, thanks for the info. I know it sounds really dumb but because my previous linksys router (which is configured to my Vonage) was working fine, i just followed the instructions in the installation cd for the wrt54g wireless and treated my modem and my first linksys as one entity ( the modem ). And it worked and now i'm connected to the internet and the Vonage. this is what we call quack networking hehe...

i dont usually tinker with a good thing but having three boxes with a zillion wires is not fun. but i will run the ipconfig and get back to you with the information (i gotta run to class). How do i secure my wireless network once i have it up and running? the last time i set up a wep key for my netgear, is when everything stopped working.

It's recommended that WAP is used if is available. You say everything (all) systems, or just the others that were not hooked to the router?

hi Abera,

there is a similar problem here i am using the same specs.

Here are the specs:
Router : Linksys WRT54g
Connection type : Broadband DSL
modem :220BX ADSL2 + modem beetel

I thought i would purchase RT31P2 linksys router for installing my Vonage adaptor, as the model is not available right now the vendor as recomended WRT54G linksys. I have three Vonage adaptors to be connected, do recommed if WRT54G works for me.

Or do you suggest any other router. If you have any links which guides me throught the installation process the same would be great.

Look forward for your reply.

I use the WRT54GS. Just my opinion, but I've had no problem with it. The long link below has some auto setup tools for your router. I don't know what you mean by 3 Vonage adapters. Please explain.

Did you ever get this sorted?

I seem to have the same type of set up and problem as you.
