In wake of the recent out cries of Comcast problems with Sandvine tcp resets, I've been noticing issues with my phone that I believe may be related. I called home today to talk to my wife, and noticed that the phone would go black several times through out the phone call. She would be talking and in the middle of something it would go black, then it would come back. So far I havent noticed any issues with making calls. The only problem is when the call is connected. Is anyone experiencing this same issue with Comcast? Appreciate the feedback.

I have not experienced any issues with my Vonage service since Comcast implemented or has denied any traffic shaping practices. Run the Voip test and let's see your results.

Yes, we have been experiencing some issues too. Most often we can hear the caller, but the caller can not hear us. It happens several times a day. My qos is 99%, with 8meg down and 2.4 meg up speeds. MOS score 4.0 I thought it was the wireless phone (2.4ghz) and we bought new phones (vtech dect6) but the problem still persists. I was talkng about the issue with someone else who has Vonage, but they are not on the comacast backbone. No one can explain it.

I'm using Comcast/Vonage for a year now. Besides the usual crappy connection to mobiles in Europe, i have and had no such problems.

Yes, I too am having all kinds of issues with Comcast and Vonage currently. When making calls and receving calls I am constantly being blacked out (aka I can hear others but they can't hear me). This is very frustrating. I am with Comcast in Denver, Colorado.

Anyone had any luck troubleshooting or solving this issue?

Current settings:
ISP: Comcast Denver
Device: Linksys PAP2
Router: Linksys WRT54G
Curent download is 8 down, 1.2 up.
I have setup the router to do the whole port forward thing to the linksys device and have configured the device.

Any help is appreciated.

If your Vonage device is behind a router try plugging it directly into the modem and then running the router off the Vonage device. Also, check to see if you are experiencing latency or jitter. Even though you both have sufficient bandwidth, there may be a problem with data not being received in a timely manner. - kind of like a 4 lane highway at rush-hour. plenty of road, but not much traffic getting through on time.

1. click on START and then RUN
2. in the box type CMD and click OK
3. on the black screen type: ping yahoo.com -n 50

This will start a ping test from you to yahoo and then back again sort of like a ping-pong game.

When the test is complete, about 4 lines from the bottom you should see "packets sent = 50" then you will see packets received. If you lost over 2% you are having an issue with the ISP and need to contact them.

Two lines below that you will see min and max and avg. This is the minimum, maximum, and average round trip time. Both numbers should ideally be under 100 (a number of up to 150 could probably be caught by Vonage with changes to your adapter's settings). Anything over that would be latency and you would have to call ISP. These numbers should also be within 25 of each other or you are dealing with jitter. Again, you would have to call your ISP.

In summary -
* no more than 2% packet loss
* a latency of under 100
* min and max should be within 25 of each other
