Hi,

Did anyone had a success using Vonage in India?

Thanks
Anu

I've been using Vonage in India for the last year and half. I just brought the Vonage box I was using in the US with me it it just started working without a problem when I plugged it in to my broadband connection.

Spock

Hi Spock,

Good that you can use it. Can you give more info like your location, which broadband you are using, which plan, bandwidth, what type of convertor you are using to plug the Linksys router etc. This type of answers help others if they want to use vonage. Thanks and I would appreciate if you provide this info.

Bye
Anu

Hi Anu,

In India, I've been using it in Salem (Tamil Nadu). I was initially using it with a DishnetDSL 128k connection with Bandwitdh Saver set at 30k. After a year I used it with a VSNL (old DishnetDSL) 512k connection. I currently use it with a Airtel Broadband 512k connection.

I haven't had any problems and it works just as good as it used to in the US. I've had several other people buy and use it on my recommendation in Coimbatore and Bangalore and they're all happy with it.

I have one of the older Cisco ATA186 boxes. However I'm familiar with the Linksys devies too.

Please feel free to ask any further questions.

Spock

Hi,

Well from your info I am now pretty sure that my assumption that Airtel connection is the best was right.

Can you pls explain your network?

You are saying you asked your friends to buy it & use it in Bangalore ....my question is did they get the adapters in India or here in US.

Thanks
Anu

It works fine with Airtel & Dishnet/VSNL. I'm currently using it with Airtel.

I do have a router which shares the internet connection to the network. the Vonage adapter is plugged into the router.

You cannot purchase adapters fron India to use with vonage. You'll have to send it from the US.

Spock

FYI, I know of someone in Bangalore who's using it without any problem.

People, world communications are going that way... VoIP.... sorry, but they have to accept it...

What happen with the people that travel around the world and charge you with expensive fees in hotels.... it's not the same with those calls over the internet coffee places that you can call?

well, that's what I think....

Oh, don't worry, they'll do their best to stop VoIP... much easier for them to hire lawyers than look at their own business and streamline things.
