Does anyone know of other compaines that compete with Vonage?
Know any pros/cons of the others out there?
Is Vonage better/worse/same as the others?
Thanks! |

AT&T has a Voip service. I think their plans are about $5 more expensive, not sure about the features. |

Its hard to tell. I think most of the negative feedback is due to ISP issues so you really never can be certain if complaints are ISP or Voip caused. I went with Vonage figuring being a major player they couldn't afford to get a bad name so they would stay on top of thier stuff. They all seem to have close to the same features but a lot don't have multiple codecs and only 2 voips I know have g.726-32 which I think is best if your upload speed isn't that great. Broadbandreports forums get the most messages and deal with all the companies. I sort of like Broadvoice because they have a cheap 21 country unlimited plan plus they allow you to "bring your own device" This can be good to have if you want to mess with a Voip gateway like the SPA-3000. But I haven't messed with them personally. |

I picked Vonage due to the following report: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-9140_7-5131559-1.html?tag=nav
However, I am also testing Lingo.com right now. At the end of both trial periods I'll chose a winner.
From all that I've read it seems that Vonage has a very good voice quality and reliability. The Lingo service has many complaints about reliability and quality, but it has much better international / local rate prices/packages.
So Like I said I'm evaluating both right now.
With Vonage: Call Quality has been great, but some people I call tell me I sound very queit.
I have simultaneous ring go to my Cell phone. If I call home from my cell phone I get my cell phone voicemail after only 1 or 2 rings on the home line.
With Lingo: Call quality so far has been great. One report of small echo on a long distance call... and one time the TA has disconnected itself and required a reboot (within the first 6 hours of me using the service).
Simultaneous ring works great and I can call home from my cell phone no problem. |

verizon has Voip service now too. they call it "voice wings". their service is $34.99 or $29.99 when bundled with verizon DSL. here's the catch, this plan is called "unlimited", but the fine print says that anything over 5000 minutes can be considered abuse and means for possible termination of service. so much for unlimited.
on a side note, i had never even heard of Vonage until i saw their spot in a circuit city ad. my main reason for choosing Vonage? lynksys equipment i already had a lynksys router and have been pleased with the service it gives me. now that i've had Vonage for about a month, i'm extremely pleased with my choice! |

several providers cap their "unlimited" minutes. Vonage used to have 3000, not sure if they do any more though. |

Wow... they really should not be allowed to call it "unlimited" then! |

Alltalk from USA Datanet has a $24.95 unlimited plan. I switched from Vonage, very happy with quality (much better), also has anonymous call blocking and 7-digit dialing which was key for me |

Alltalk from USA Datanet sounds like a good deal. Would you know where I could look up the area codes it services? |
