Anyone else having problems with playing WAV voicemail on a Treo phone?
Yes, I have the U-law codec. Yes, I've updated all of my software, and yes I'm getting tired of answering those questions. Not getting any help from vonage.
I have 2 phone lines through vonage, and both send VM as wav to my e-mail. On my PC I can play both wav files, on my Treo I can only play one of them. The other comes up as "unsupported wav format". Bought a new audio application that also supports u-law for my phone - same problem. All VM coming from one phone line is unplayable on my Treo. From the e-mail coding, it's also coming from a different server.

that is a pretty interesting issue you have there
the ability to "read" the file comes from the device and the software loaded that is trying to play it not the file itself. coming from a different server most likely is just a coincidence as you state your pc can read both so the files being sent are the same from both servers.
Is it always the same number and has the issue always occured or did it just start recently?
I would call again...i know you already did, tell them that you are a multiple caller for the same issue and ask to be transfered to ATS, and engineer could possibly change the email server that your number is associated with to see if that is the issue, but like i said not sure why that would be as a file from that same server to your PC works fine
are the .wav files that you are trying to listen to being sent to the same email account? or are they different and if they are different try to flip flop them and see if the issue goes to the other phone number |

The reason I'm leaning toward the server, is that the files that work come from a proxy server (klga1s.vonagenetworks.net.tmail) but the ones that don't work come from mx2,mx3,mx4,mx5.nyc.vonage.net.
I've actually tried a number of e-mail addresses under more than one provider with no change. I believe the issue may be related to DRM (Digital Rights Management) as it's applied to the wav file when it's created, but this is just a hunch. To add another twist, if I browse to the vonage website on my phone, I can play the wav file, but I can't play the same file sent from vonage through e-mail.
I was also unable to play the messages on my PC as well until I found a registry work-a-round allowing them both to work. (This reinforced the DRM theory)
If I didn't mention it before, I've been receiving my e-mail trough my phone for over two years with absolutely no problems until approx 1 month ago.
ATS - been there three times and very frustrated.
#1 reset my phone line, sent test vm, had to power cycle modem. He was supposed to call back - never did.
#2 called back, explained the whole story again, transferred me to ATS, some one answered the phone and then hung up.
#3 called back again, got Tier 1, great guy spent a lot of time trying to understand the problem, he said "ATS appeared reluctant to take the phone call". After another 30 minutes of trouble shooting the same questions he said I could hold in the que and wait for ATS. Instead of forwarding me to the que, he transferred my call to my own VM box! |
