Hi, I have the vonage bussiness plan which includes 2 lines - a phone line and a fax line. I have setup both lines with my linksys WRTP54G adapter. Both lines work fine independently. However, whenever the fax line is in use, callers to the phone line will get "temporarily unavailable". In short, whenever I send a fax I miss incoming calls. This entirely defeats the whole purpose of having a separate fax line!
How can I make use of both lines simultaneously? |

You should contact customer support about this issue. |

Definitely. I've never heard of this problem before. |

It sounds pretty simple to me. Your bandwidth is not handling the two connections. It would be a good idea to run some speed tests and make sure you're not getting excessive packet loss. |

He wouldn't get the faxes out if it was excessive packet loss. This does sound like a lack of bandwidth tho. Run some speed tests. If you are set to the High codec, (which is the default) then you need 90 kbps for each line. |

He sure would. But, if the connections being used at the same time is not working there might be traffic issues, and as we all know there are collisions in traffic jams, which causes the packet to be lost or horribly delayed (jitter). |

All good points, and bandwidth tests are certainly in order. Still, the "temporarily unavailable" message sounds odd. I suspect it will turn out to be more than just a bandwidth issue. |

are both the phone and the fax machine connected directly to the device with out any connections to a phone jack on the wall or splitters or anything.
stray voltage either from the fax machine itself or from a phone jack on the wall can cause that issue. when one is used the device has no issue handling it but when both are used and the off_hook voltage is on both lines the device has issues.
if it was a routing issue it would happen on either of the lines all the time most likely...but your best bet is to call TEch and try to get someone in ATS they need to but your device on debug so they can see what it is doing when you try to use the fax and phone at the same time...that will show what the issue is |
