Hi everyone.

I'm new here, I get to this forum, looking have to solve, a few problem that I have try to using my new WRTP54G and my P2P programs.

I read a couple of threads, where a few users said that is better to use a different hardware, like the PAP2 + (maybe) WRT54G.

I read, in this forum to use the WRT54GL.. is a big diference between this one and the WRT54G?

Do you think guys, this is going to give better result. Now I don't have problem with the quality of the voice (I didn't try either to upload a big files at the same time), but my biggest complain, is about, is look like I can't configure the router very well for my P2P software. And sometimes, the router get freeze, and I need to turn off, and turn on, again, to star working again.

Any ideas of better hardware to use.. problaby tomorrow, o next day I will go to change for those I said before. Do I sould considere others?

I need ethernet connection for my desktop pc and wireless too, for my wife laptop.

Thanks.

Many here put a WRT54GL in front of their Vonage device. They also use 3rd party firmware on it like DD-WRT or Tomato for better QoS for things like P2P.

The big difference between the WRT54G and the WRT54GL is that you can load different firmware on the GL which is what gives many users better options for QoS.

Hope this helps.

I bought the WRTP54G in a BestBuy store, so I should return it in the same store... and I'm looking in the website and I can't find the WRT54GL.

They have:
- Linksys - 802.11g Wireless Router Model: WRT54G SKU: 5250774
- Linksys - SpeedBooster 802.11g Wireless Router Model: WRT54GS SKU: 6304082

And of course others brands. Wich one, do you recomend me?
Can I load a 3rd party firmware on those?

I think I have the WRT54GP2, it is an all in one unit.(I am away on the road so can't confirm the model #) I have forwarded the ports and I can download large P2P files while on the phone. When I make the call the linksys adapter gives more bandwidth to the phone call and limits the downloading.

Yes that model is an all in one unit. WRT54GP2, but I can't find it, in the BestBuy's website, and I need it, that they sell the product in the BestBuy store, because I'm going to exchange to one that I have for another.
So I checked in the website, and the only ones, that I can find were the ones that I posted before.

What firmware version do you have on your WRTP54G? Which P2P program are you trying to use with your WRTP54G?

Firmware Version: 1.00.20. (I don't know how to update it).
I want to use eMuLe.

Other thing. When I was doing the installation, I use the router's cd, and I always get a error in the middle of the installation. At the end, I can configure all, and now, I can get to internet, and recive the call... I can't connect eMuLe, but I guessing, if because that error in the installation, I would have biggest problems later.

The reason the WRTP54G is freezing up is because of your firmware version...The version you currently have is extremely old. In order for the router to update to a more current version, you have to login to the WRTP54G and temporarily disable the wireless feature. Unplug the power from the WRTp54G for about 3 minutues and then see if the device will update it's firmware to version 1.00.62 or later. Once we get this solved, I'll show you how to forward ports on your WRTP54G for P2P.
