I was wondering if it were possible for me to sign up to that and save $15 a month? Though I guess it'd end up costing lots of long distance fees to people calling me, but most people nowadays got unlimited (or very cheap) long distances for both Canada and US calls..
Seeing how Canadian money is worth more now.. the price difference really shouldn't be that high Sad Well I consider getting the $19.95 one instead of the unlimited one, but still, the $5 difference really shouldn't be there.. :/

In order for you to sign up for the unlimited plan in the states you need a U.S address or a billing address for you credit card.

I know what you are saying about the price difference, but that has nothing to do with the currency exchange.

Even when you pay the $39.99 plus taxes you are still saving compared to a regular phone line with all the features.

You could go with the limited plan of 500 minutes and use your computer to make calls which don't count against your minutes, using Vonage Talk, nothing about this on the Vonage Canada site.

www.alpha.vonage.com

I would sign up for the unlimited plan first and then if you want to downgrade do that withing the first 30 days otherwise there is a charge of about $12 or $14

You will enjoy Vonage, but Vonage is only as good as your internet connection. If you have DSL make sure you can have a dry DSL hook up from your provider otherewise you won't have the internet when you go and cancel your home phone.

Ok thanks for the reply Wink
Checking the alpha thing.. Can I use the Vonage router to make those calls through my pc, or would I need a mic/headset/usb adapter to use that?
Chances are I'll pick the 500 plan, since most calls I make are incoming ones, but just in case I go over 500 minutes, would be good to know how that works Wink
Seems I can receive calls using this too.. hmm pretty nice feature, reminds me of *cough* Skype *cough* ;p
Main reason I dont want to go with skype is it requires the PC to be always on.. it'd be cheaper but heh.. don't want a pc crash to disrupt my phone calls ;p

With Vonage you don't need to have your computer on.

To use Vonage talk you do require to have your computer on just like Skype and you need a head set with microphone. It works just like Skype, but better all calls incoming and outgoing are free!

The Vonage adapter is just a router that has Voip capabilities. You don't have to have your computer connected to your Vonage adapter to work. I take my laptop with me on the road and make my phone calls, I just need an internet connection.

Ok thanks Wink
Just finished signing up, and wanted to test the Vonage talk program to make a call but it acts as if I didn't sign up..? Maybe I wanted to try it out too soon? Or is there something I need to do first to tell them to activate Vonage Talk with my account?

Since you have just signed up you still need your Vonage equipment to activate the line.

Once you have your Vonage adapter, you will have a user name and password.

Did you sign up online or on the phone? Do you already have your Vonage adapter?

I sent you a message, check it out.

You might be able to use it if you know your user name and password, but I can't confirm that.

Oh and a crazy question but.. once I got the Vonage router, can I use both the phone & Vonage Talk at the same time? (i.e. if two persons want to make calls at the same time?) not that this will happen a lot but it's always good to know ;D
