PostPosted: Wed Dec 08, 2004 10:39 pm    Post subject: Problems with initial setup using PPoE Reply with quote Back to top

This is very frustrating. Here's the scenerio:

Without the phone, when I connect to my DSL, I HAVE to click on a user sign on page and use PPoE and surf the web. I haven't found a way around it and it will NOT automatically connect. Now, that's all fine and dandy until I try to connect the phone adapter. Following just the instructions, I get to the point where the green light blinks twice (trying to get an IP address). So, I change the setting so it logs on using my PPoE account. Still, it only gets to two blinking lights. After playing around with it for awhile, I find that if I connect to the internet as normal with my computer, perform an IPCONFIG, write down the IP address that it assigned to me, then go into the phone adapter and set that to the static IP, then I get to four blinking lights! (registering with Vonage servers). However, it never gets past that point.

The only thing I can think of is that I need to use PPoE, but my ISP requires me to log on (remember I actually have to hit the sign on screen every time) and the adapter is not able to do that. A bypass is setting the static IP, but then I never authenticate to the PPoE...

Please, does anybody know either what I'm talking about or how to resolve this issue.

Thank you for reading this post and I hope someone can help!!!

Thanks for the reply.

My phone adapter is Motorolla VT1000
My ADSL modem is Comtrend 561

After a couple of tech support calls they've suggested that is may be port 69 is being blocked by my ISP and to factory reset the phone adapter. I called my ISP and they said no ports are being blocked. However, I live in Bermuda which means that don't believe it unless you see if yourself. Tonight, from my computer I will:

tftp tftp.vonage.net get test

If the tftp fails then hopefully I can isolate that it is port 69 being blocked and then start figuring out how to get around that. Otherwise, it's going to be a factory reset and pray that something goes right.

Please, if there are any other suggestions then let me know! Thank you for reading this post!
