Here's the current setup:
Cable Modem -> Motorola Wireless Router (VT2542) ---> Linksys WRT54g with Tomato Firmware (similar to dd-wrt firmware) ---> Xbox
Motorola: IP: 192.168.1.9 Sub: 255.255.255.0 DHCP Server
Linksys: IP 192.168.1.1 Sub: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: none
I have two computers connected to the Motorola router using Cat5 cables, and my laptop connecting wirelessly.
The Linksys router is connected to the Motorola as a wireless ethernet bridge. My xbox is plugged into the Linksys with a cat5 cable and can access the internet.
My problem is i can't FTP into my xbox from my laptop, and my laptop cannot login to my Linksys router while connected wirelessly to the Motorola. The only way i can connect to them is by plugging a cat5 cable into my Linksys router.
I think the problem is with static IP routing. I tried tinkering with it but can't get it working properly. Can anyone help me out here?
Thanks, |

The problem is that each router is making a separate network so that a device on one (like your laptop) can't connect to one on the other (like your XBOX)
I could be wrong, but I don't think there is a way around this. |

Ilink, look at Nate Hoy's descriptions for cascading routers here: http://vonage.nmhoy.net/tworouters.html . Scenario 3.
Butterman is right about the separate networks, but there is a way around it. Basically, you configure the second router as a switch.
By the way, why do you have the Linksys at all? With two wired computers and the Xbox, why not just plug them all into the Motorola? |

the linksys router was connected wirelessly to the Vonage router as a Wireless Gateway.
I wanted internet connections in 2 rooms in my apartment, but didn't want to run cat5 cables through the walls. |

Ouch. You did tell us about the wireless bridge; I overlooked it. Butterman may be right about this being in the too hard pile. However, this link may have some clues: http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic15982.html . |
