I just moved to a new house - my equipment use to work fine

Here is my equipment stack:

timewarner RR ambit v2.0 > D-Link DGL 4300 v1.7 > D-Link VTA > vtech phone.

Everything comes-up - VTA device has lights on - I can log in to all devices and status looks good but as soon as I plug in the phone jack VTA disconnects.

Is is possible that the phone went bad during the move or maybe I am using pass-though cable anywhere or need to upgrade firmware

When you say that the VTA disconnects, do you mean that the phone light goes out, or something else? Does internet connectivity via the router still work?

It's certainly possible that the phone went bad, but that shouldn't cause problems with the VTA. Certainly trying another phone is a good step. Also, you can go to your web account and switch phone ports to see if that makes a difference. Also, try plugging the VTA directly into the modem and see if that makes a difference.

I mean that every time I would plug the RJ the internet would drop.

So it made me wonder if the internet plug was loose. And sure enought it was.

I now have a rubber band holding the ethernet cable in the back of the VTA and voila the phone is working fine

Aah the wonders of technology Very Happy

BTW what do you mean go to my web account and change the port number?

AH! A low tech solution to a high tech problem.Lol

You can log into your account > Add-ons > Move A Number. From there, you can switch RJ11 ports.

For me, it would be worth the few bucks to buy a new cable to insure the best voice quality. Just a thought.

The D-link has ports for 2 phone lines. If you're only paying for 1, the other is dead. These days Vonage allows you to switch between the two via your on-line account page. I guess it saves them some customer service calls from savvy customers.
