I currently have one phone number with Vonage and I want another number that only goes to voicemail. I'm wondering if I can set up a virtual number to not ring my other Vonage number and instead just go to voicemail. If that works, then I can go with a $5 a month virtual number instead of getting a $10 a month softphone number.
My intention is that I want to have a number that I can give to every company that I do business with, such as the energy company, my credit cards, cable company, bank, etc. Anybody that may call me at the absolute wrong time with their telemarketing pitch. Then they just get voicemail and I can then give my "real" number to family and friends whic I actually want to answer the phone for. Is that possible with the virtual number? |

Call Vonage and they can set up a voicemail only account for you. First they will set up a full-featured phone line and then they'll strip it down to be just voicemail. It will cost $4.99.
Not all the phone representatives are aware of this possibility, so you may have to push for them to talk to a manager.

I think the virtual number and the regular number have different voicemail setups, so you might be able to add a virtual number, then set it up to forward to voicemail if not answered after one second.
You'd want to check that with a rep, or with someone who has a virtual number and can experiment. I don't have any virtual numbers. |

in my virtual number setup, I can select to have my virtual number go straight to voicemail, well, actually, I think the phone will ring once, but then it will go to voicemail, it is the same voicemail that your main line goes to, but to answer your question, yes you can set it to go right to your voicemail, and with the one ring you'll know that someone has called.. |
