OK, I know I am not the only one with this issue but - I cannot find a resolution and I really need to.

I Get an email from Vonage, it has a voicemail attached with a .wav extension.
I open it -
Windows media player opens
Get an error:

An audio codec is needed to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download from the Web, click Web Help.

Click web help
takes you to this link
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/webhelp/default.aspx?&mpver=11.0.5721.5230&id=C00D10D1&contextid=84&originalid=80040200&codec=7

The page says
Windows Media Player Error Message Help
You've encountered an error message C00D10D1 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.

Codec is missing
Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the Microsoft CCITT u-Law (7) codec is not installed on your computer.

The missing codec might be available to download from the Internet. To search for the Microsoft CCITT u-Law (7) codec, see WMPlugins.com.

I have spent 3 hours on the web and with Vonage support - they said I should re-install - yeah right

Windows XP service pack 2 - all updates
I CAN play all other .WAV files on my PC - Just cannot play Vonage based .WAV files.

Also cannot play them on my windows based cell phone....

Thanks!
Ralph

Which version of Windows Media player are you using? As the error message stated, you're missing a codec. Go here http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm and download and install the full version of K-Lite Codec pack 3.4.5 Full

I am on Windows Media player version 11.

That worked - the download - During the install I only chose windows media classic and .wav pack and then the tools at the bottom - I can know play my voicemail on my PC. Thank you!

Any ideas how to get it to work on my pocket pc?? (Cingular 8125 mobile phone.

When I play them on my phone

I get the error
Windows Media
Cannot play the audio stream: the audio format is not supported.

thanks!

Once again, more than likely you don't have the .wav codec for your pocket pc. Have you tried changing the extension to a format that it does support? I'm not familiar with the Cingular 8125 pocket pc but I would suggest to you googling the Cingular 8125 for downloadable codecs that would allow you to play .wav extensions. You might even want to consult the vendor directly for support with this issue.
