Post subject: thanks for all the comments
Thanks everybody for all the comments. For the moment I've disconnected my wireless router from the network and I'm testing the results. I think I have come up with the following:
1) It's probably not a Vonage-related service problem.
2) It's probably not related to the wireless network conflicting with my cordless phone, although it might be something withinin the router settings (short preamble, etc).
3) It's possible that I have a bandwidth issue. I've done some packet tests from broadbandreports, and it doesn't look like this is the case. Speed seems to be OK as well. I have EarthLink Cable, which actually uses Time Warner Cable's lines. It's been fairly solid but I'll run some packet loss tests during peak hours.
4) It's probably that the phone itself is faulty - I've read some unfavorable customer reviews of the Motorola phone where the ability to talk "cuts out". Hmmm...sounds familiar. I'm starting to look at Unidens, which seem to have excellent reputation amongst the ranks of geekdom.
I think what I need to do next is to use and old-school wired phone to completely eliminate any chance that there's a wireless problem going on. If my problems persist with the wired phone then I know that I've got some bandwidth issues or other service-related issue that's out of my immediate localized control.
Thanks very much for the input everybody!
