What will happen to Vonage? I truly hope that some judge who understands technology decides properly. It is unfortunate that a larger company is using the courts to stifle a business rather than advance technology and business. I have heard of several companies form only to hold a patent and sue other companies. In any event, I have used Vonage for several years for my business. I have a PAP2 and use one phone port for a fax, and the other for my voice line. I use the Simulring feature to ring up my cell phone. All my business advertising, my letterhead, and my business cards use my Vonage number. I am hoping that Vonage survives its current troubles. If Vonage goes under, it will affect my business. I will have to figure out how to transfer my Vonage number to some other phone service provider. I would most likely transfer my voice number to a cell phone. I would have to figure out how to get my fax number to one of those efax type companies. Does anyone know if Vonage numbers are transferrable to other service providers? Who owns my Vonage number? Me or Vonage? I did pre-pay for a year of Vonage service, so obviously, on some level I do believe they will be around for a year. It would be a real shame if Vonage failed. So, does anyone have opinions on this? Does anyone know whether a Vonage number is owned by the subscriber or by Vonage? Can those numbers be transferred? Will Vonage survive? |

As a SunRocket survivor, I was able to port my #'s to other phone companies, after the shut down. Because of that shut down the #'s were held for retrieval. Do not cancel your service if you wish to port unless of course there is a shut down, and do not port to a cell, you would not at the present time be able to port back. The numbers are held by CLECS ie. Global Crossing, which you can search on whitepages.com reverse number lookup. Hope this helps alleviate some of your fears. |

If a group of federal judges as intelligent as those who sit on the Court of Appeals for the D.C. circuit--regarded as the most skilled when it comes to patent issues--decides for a company like Verizon, this is NOT a good sign.
I doubt SCOTUS will even grant writ on appeal, in which case the final nail in Vonage's coffin will have been nailed. Right now, the company is suffering from a terminal illness that is not likely to be cured. At least not anytime soon.
Time will tell. |

I am not sure what will happen with Vonage. I hope they get through this ok since I have mostly been very happy with there service. Well if they do go out of business then there will prob be a silver lining in there for us. When SunRocket went under several companies put on specials for former customers to get them over to their company. In fact a lot of these companies still have these specials running. I even just came across one earlier from Net2Phone. They have been around for a while and were offering a pretty good deal to the former SunRocket customers. So if the worst happens lets hope some companies like this will be offering us deals as well. |

I've loved the service and used it for 4 years but we need to face facts, the company has no future. The cost of subscriber acquisition is out of control, and with the escrow of money for the lawsuits the company is running out of cash. The stock is below $1, and if it stays there for more than 30 days, it will be delisted from the NYSE. That will seal the deal on the company going under.
Sorry Vonage, but today I started the process to port my remaining two numbers back to AT&T. I hate paying so much, but I want to keep my numbers and don't want to go a day without service.
It's been a nice run. |
