Just got off the phone with Vonage. 4 hours total time on the phone with them. Had to do the typical troubleshooting with tier 1 and 2 tech support and worked my way up to ATS (advanced technical support). Problem was when I setup my static IP address when it reboots it looses the static config and goes back to factory defaults. Even does it with the wireless AP settings. If you set up a new SSID when rebooted it goes back to factory configs.
Turns out they have officially advised me that the Motorola VT2542 does have a firmware bug.
Feel free to reference my case number of #14728452 if you have a Motorola VT2542 that's doing the same thing.
They say they are working with Motorola on getting this issue fixed. I'm supposed to call back in two weeks to see if they have a fix.
I find it hard to believe Motorola would produce a router that resets itself to factory configs when you power it off and on.
Hope this post helps others.

It's been well known now for some time that the Motorola VT2542 resets to factory defaults with the reboot of the device or if the device looses power. I'm surprised that the Vonage techs had you on the phone for 4 hours trying to troubleshoot this issue. I first spoke with tech support about this issue in late July and they told me a firmware update would be released two weeks later to correct this issue. It's been considerably longer than any two weeks and no firmware update as of yet has been released. Besides this one issue with the device, it's worked perfectly as a router and voice adapter.
The "Report a Bug Forum," is for bug related issues with the site and not your device. Moderator, could you move this post to the appropriate forum. |

| Quote: | It is well known that if you have to reboot the VT2542 or if the power is loss, the Motorola VT2542 loses all of it's settings, (i.e. security and any other settings you may have configured) and resets to factory defaults. When I spoke with Vonage tech support on July 27, 2007, I was told that Vonage was well aware of this issue with the VT2542 and that a new firmware update would be released within two weeks. Well it's been considerably longer than two weks and this problem still persists with no new firmware update to address this problem. Will a support person please address this issue, and "when" and "if" there will be a firmware update to correct this annoying behavior. |
no one even in 2nd level tech support knew anything... it seems like it's impossible to get in-house tech support on the line |

I'd like to add to this in hopes that people see this before they order this router. If you have a internet connection that demands a username and password, this bug is HUGE.
Each time the router resets to factory defaults, you'll lose you username / password settings; thus, you'll lose your internet and your phone service. Not a big deal if you're local and can re-entry the settings, but if you're away from home, you're dead in the water. |

I just got the Motorola VT2542 today and had to reboot the router because I was changing its location. My settings remained. This took over 10 minutes since I had other things to do after unplugging the device. My settings remained intact. Maybe this has been fixed. |

I think this is the version everyone is running I am not sure. Software Version: 11.4.1-r070201-1.3.2 -r1 . But then it could be that my setup is pretty basic, Cable modem --> VT2542. But I purchased the router knowing this issue so I was prepared to fix the settings again when viola! nothing to fix, all my settings remained. |

nyrican, I know you have a basic setup but did you try to set a new password --not "router"--. Did the new password survive the reboot. If not you have the same problem everyone else has. |

Same version here, matter of fact I've had that version for about two months now.
Same setup here, cable modem connected to the VT2542 connected to the computer. So you didn't have to reset the wireless security on the device after rebooting? Did you have any other configurable settings on the device other than security? |
