Hi again,

Thanks very much.

Just to clarify, When I did the first test there was one Vonage box plugged into the router and my laptop cabled up to the router also.

Are you saying plug the adapter directly into DSL connection in the wall, (bypassing the router completely)?
Surely this wouldnt work as it wouldnt have any password and IP settings etc.
Hmm... maybe I've misunderstood?....

Is the D-Link device a router/phone adapter combination or solely a phone adapter? If you remove the router, are you saying you won't have an internet connection?

The D-link is the Vonage adapter... the Belkin Wireless router is an all-in-one Modem and router. So if I unplug it, there will be no connection.
That said, I may be able to find an old cabled router lying around which I can plug a phone straight into.. if this is what you mean?

Maybe worth noting that I have no port forwarding set up for the Vonage devices either. Not sure whether this would make a difference or not. The reason I have never gone down that route is that there was connectivity there, so I've only ever forwarded ports on routers where the connection is completely unavailable....

I understand now...the belkin is a modem/router combo and if you remove it you definitely wont have an internet connection to run the test again.

Port forwarding should not be necessary.

Can you make a call from a Spain line to your Vonage line to test the call quality and clarity?

No I have no other spanish line here, although could probably find someone to call it for me.

However, I have just exchanged the belkin wireless modem/router for a standard telefonica DSL router and plugged a Vonage device into it to see if this makes any difference..

Results as follows:

With the Telefonica DSL router not only are you still showing 100% packet loss, but now excessive jitter...I would go back to your previous setup. See the link for explanations of jitter and packetloss. http://myvoipspeed.visualware.com/ This site is also a very good test site.

Like I said in my first post, it is looking like it is the quality of your internet connection there. You should start calling your ISP and complaining to them. You said you have a lightning quick connection, which may be true for web browsing. However, there is a lot more involved with producing good Voip conversations. When I first arrived in Mexico, I had all sorts of problems as well. Calls to the states were ok at best only if I called out. Incoming calls were another matter. I could never call Mexico without horrible results. Because, in my mind, the information has to do twice the travelling when you call the country your in. Which might explain why calls to the UK are ok for you but calls to Spain are not. I had the same problem except I was calling the states. Point being, it was my internet connection that was causing all of the problems and had nothing to do with Vonage. I think your test results prove that your internet connection is far from stellar when it comes to using Voip.

Hmmm... well I'm no expert, but it it realistic that I have 100% packet loss?
I'm no expert but presumably this would mean no calls whatsoever.

I'm guessing this could be my firewalls blocking that part of the test?!

Sounds like a logical suggestion true. I don't know how many packets are sent with these tests though. It could also be just at that given point in time when you run the test. Have you ran the tests multiple times to see if you get any big variations in your results? Have you tried a ping -t command to a web server somewhere to see what sort of packet loss you encounter? Again, call your ISP to have them fix the problem. Until you get them to fix it, I don't think you'll have much luck.

Yeah I've ran it a few times now, I think I've posted three results up here so far.
Not done ping -t yet, forgot about that (it's been a long time since I used to work in tech support).
So, with your problem in Mexico, what was the end resolution?.. did you stay with the same ISP, did you have to prove to them that there was a problem, and if so, what did you have to provide to get them to take action?
Telefonica here in Spain have a monopoly and they're not overly helpful so I will probably need all the amunition I can find!

Many thanks for your help so far, though, and if anyone else has anything else to add it would be very much appreciated Very Happy
