PostPosted: Tue Sep 18, 2007 8:15 pm    Post subject: Broken quality of service - Road Runner in NYC (Brooklyn) Reply with quote Back to top

Since Monday I've had unusable sound quality in Brooklyn NY via Time Warner Cable Road Runner. Speed test below (note the pause 1831ms and QoS 24%).

Haven't changed anything in my setup which has been working well for a year. Checked the router status, no unusual errors or load.

Unplugged everything, cable box, cable modem, network router, Vonage Linksys router, and reconnected everything, no change.

Tested and searched the databases at VOIPreview.org using *.nyc.res.rr.com, no one else seems to be having nearly as bad service.

http://www.voipreview.org:2314/search.html?id=90960

Anyone else experiencing this now or in the past, any thoughts on anything else to test or what I need to tell Time Warner to get it fixed?

just spent an hour on the phone with Road Runner...

- go thru automated prompts to reset everything, no way to short-circuit
- repeat same process with level one drone
- next guy says looks like it's been 'flapping', transfers to local office
- local office says looks like a signal out of range, need to send a tech day after tomorrow

good thing it's not something I use all the time.

at least I didn't get disconnected. if Friday tech no-shows or can't fix guess it's back to Verizon.

Wow.... they dispatch a tech within 48 hours?

Without a fight ????  Must be nice.

Brighthouse/Road Runner in our area is almost always a 5 day wait. And because that is 5 business days, it always means "next week" even if you call on a Monday.

Every time, I play their little game. I make a fuss about 5 days meaning "next week", they put me on hold, come back a few minutes later saying they called Dispatch and there is nothing available any sooner. So, I ask to be transferred to the Cancellations dept., tell them to come get their modem and close my account....... they put me on hold, come back on the line, and Lo and Behold, it's a miracle, a tech is suddenly available in the next day or so.

Sigh........

Time Warner tech just left, looks all better - according to the tech, they add more subscribers, so they have to up the signal strength. Tthen the people closest to the switch get a signal that's too strong so they have to tweak the hookup with splitters and whatnot. Sounds like something that might have to happen every couple of years when they add and subtract subscribers. Lucky to get it fixed the first time (if it stays fixed), and still a lot of hours wasted.
