Post subject: Hard reset may solve the problem.
Here's the latest from me.
I did a hard reset (pressed the reset button for 30 seconds or so until everything started blinking). Much to my dismay, the firmware version did not change when I did this. However the settings I had in there did change. I was about to restore them to the previous settings (I saved them beforehand - there is button for this in the administrative section of the web interface) but decided to see what worked without restoring them thinking that maybe the new firmware doesn't like one of my settings.
Low and behold, once I went in and set up the isp signin ans password on the setup screen, everything worked! I guess I will monkey with the settings very carefully here. So to summarize, if you have version 5.01.04 on there just reset the thing (push the button in with pen or something and hold it for 30 seconds) and start from scratch, at least that's what appears to be working for now. We'll see if this works tomorrow.
By the way, I also called customer service for the third time (had to setup and old router and use my soft phone from work) and got someone in India who said he would change some things on his end but all that resulted in nothing. Customer service here is not a lot of help, at least the folks I spoke with.

My system is still up and running ever since I have requested the firmware roll back including the deactivation of the automatic upload. I cannot complain about the response I received from their tech support especially in the cases where I was asking them to change specific things.
You should request the roll back to the previous firmware and get the auto update deactivated.
Good luck.

Post subject: Bandwidth is still low.
My phone continues to work but I did a bandwidth test and noticed I am only getting about 10 percent of what I should be getting.
Shome, how did you get through to someone in tech support who was responsive? I keep getting folks who don't seem to be much help. Well maybe tomorrow I will call from work and ask them to roll back the firmware and turn the autoupdate off.

I did most if it by e-mail. Reporting the issue online started the string of e-mails and only called them once only because moving the phone number online didn't work.
As soon as I have read through this forum I have requested with the next e-mail to get the firmware changed, but I am sure they would that too when you call them. Just make sure to mention that you want the auto update to be deactivated as well.
Still - Good luck.

Well, I can't even log into my linksys router through 192.168.15.1.
Vonage
has blocked me from doing this. I bought the router with my own money and
Vonage
won't let me change the settings? Is this legal?

Well,
Vonage
changed the password on my router. You can log in by typing in "admin" for both the user name and password. However, after resetting to the factory defaults it shows firmware version 5.01.04 and not the original. Oh, both of my laptops can't find my wireless network at all.

If you have a problem, call
Vonage
and they will do so.
5.01.04 is pushed to my router again. Phone is now dead.

Post subject: WRTP54G 2 hr reset
I ran into the exact same problem which started last week wednesday. Last night I phoned tech support for the nth time and asked for 2nd lvl support. After spending 30 mins on the phone with the tech I finally convinced him to rollback my firmware. I had version 1.00.62 rel 070215 and he rolled it back to 1.00.62 rel 060327. This seemed to solve the problem - my router has not reset since last night. He told me that the router was configured to check for new firmware every 2 hrs, so that would explain the 2 hr uptime before it died. Apparently they can set your profile to not do a firmware update so my router is now pretty much set to not download the latest firmware - which from my experience over the last couple of days is a good thing !!.

Post subject: 5.01.05 now working
I can't really explain it but 5.01.04 is now working on my home system and I am getting full bandwidth from the router. Basically I did a hard reset (pushed the reset button in for 30 seconds) and then redid some of the settings on the router web interface. Next time I call customer support I will ask for level 2 - that seems to have yielded the best result here.

5.01.04 is now working for me as well. I did have to log back into my router page and setup my wireless connection again. Also, the sound quality on my phone has improved quite a lot. I have had a constant, mild static problem for about 2 years now and with this latest firmware upgrade I hear no static in the background at all. My guess is that
Vonage
released the firmware to early and didn't have everything set up on their end. Then re-released the firmware when they thought it was fixed.
On a side note I really wish
Vonage
would let us (the customers) know if they are working on a newer firmware and when they plan on releasing future firmware updates. Perhaps add something to their website? Also, the option of being able to turn off the auto update without having to go through hoops would be nice as well. I just think it's ridiculous that this topic is four pages long because of Vonage's inability to notify it's paying customers.
