Can anyone reccomend a DSL router with a propper Voip QOS please?
My problem with my Zyxel prestige is that the phone (VOIP) quality is just so terrible when a PC is also surfing and emailing.

DSL Modem/routers are made to save costs, and I doubt you'll find one with good QoS. I don't know the particular make and model of your Zyxel, but can you bridge it? if you can, just get a new router (Most people in this forum and myself would recommend a WRT54GL) and use the Zyxel as a modem only. Even if you can't bridge it, I would much rather have my network double NAT'd like that that spending extra money on a new Modem/router that stinks. |

OK, me again. Just to let you know about Zoom 2x I have bought. It is really cheap modem, router (64 Euro in PC World in Ireland), has WiFi(b/g) 4 LAN ports, etc, etc. A router/modem and WiFi access point. The usual.
What is the difference from the rest of the crowd is that it DOES have QoS for Voip built in. For that kind of money? Yes. Yes it does.
But what Zoom calls Voip QoS is not what one would expect under that name. There is no packet 'sniffing' to find out what one to let go firt, but the QoS is built in a router by the routers capability to prioritise traffice from one or moe of hte LAN ports or a WiFi (all of the clients connected.
So if you have a PAP2 or an IP phone taht you can plug into the LAN port on the router and give that LAN port a priority above other ports - here is your Voip QoS.
A bit unexpacted approach, but is in fact technically simple, and it really does work.
I see teh scenario where it would not work - like if you use the softphone on a PC taht is in the same time useing the network a lot - your Voip QoS is gone.
I just wanted to let you know. Zoom is not Dryteck!
