I would like to have phone service when the power goes out. I assume anyone connecting a Vonage line to their alarm system would want the same.
Are there any recommendations for an uninterruptable power supply to power a cable modem, VoIP modem, and maybe one cordless phone for up to 24 hours?
Thanks in advance! |

I don't have a specific recommendation, but I suspect that many UPSs should come close with a light load. On any specific UPS, look at its wattage rating and read the spec on how long the manufacturer claims it will work at full power. Multiple the wattage and the time and you'll have its capacity. Add up the wattage of the devices you want to power and divide that into the capacity you calculated. The result is the approximate time that the unit will work.
Good idea, by the way. I use a dedicated UPS for my modem and Vonage router, but I chose the UPS on the basis of how much I was willing to pay. It's an APC ES 350VA. It will give me about 1/2 hour at 200 watts, and my units together draw about 20 watts, so I expect to get about 5 hours of run time. |
