Post #3: Vonage got the 'old' router back and charged me $99 for it. Now I'm NOT happy at all, rather pissed in fact.

To top it off, as said the current router is doing it too, piece of *beep*. I'm getting so fed up with this I dunno what to do, 'cept buy a real router to go in front of it...

Putting another rounter in front of the Vonage will resolve network disconnects on all your computers. Unfortunately it does nothing for the call disconnects.

This happened to me several times too! I called the customer service but they could not help even after trying for a couple of hours! They eventually abandoned me! When I called again, they transferred me to tech support! OMG!! they struggled for 6 (six) hours! A fet times I inquired whether I should uninstall and re-install reply naaaa !!! Whether I should run the router CD again they said that was ABSOLUTELY unnecessary!! They reinstalled the router from their own site but nope the telephone light remained OFF! Till they gave up zzzz!!!! They concluded that the router was bad. They sent a new one but failed to issue return USPS label! After I received the new router I connected it! NO GO!
Well I got fed up complained asked for advice regarding terminating service and refund! I then tried to re install from the CD and VOILA it worked! Then for some reason I disconnected the modem and reconnected SAME thing happened! So i re installed from the CD VOILLA x2 It worked again. That is the solution NEVER switch off your modem or disconnect router or unplug phone from router or you will have to reinstall from the CD!
The international connections to INDIA are BAD lots of echoes and breaking up of sound! I am usually credited till the last time I appealed for review and with a threat to terminate service. They agreed with me and credited. End of story!

Yeah, I'm going to get another router to 'patch' this issue and then bail. I'm not going to put up with this anymore *sigh*

I have the EXACT same problem and I'm about ready to pull my hair out. I use my PC to VPN in to work and to do a lot of other important things that require a constant non-dropping connection. I only have this problem with linksys equipment. I have used two different Linksys B adapters and both have the same problem. The wireless connection drops intermittantly for no reason. If I use a non linksys adapter the problem goes away. For example I use my cisco aironet, or my microsoft USB wireless adapter and they have no problems.

Of course I had NONE of these problems before I got the voneage Linksys wireless G router with phone ports.

I have tried voneage and they are of no help. I have tried Linksys and they point the finger back at voneage.

I install enterprise class wireless networks for a living and am cisco certified. I do site surveys and use air magnet all day long. Trust me their is a BUG in the firmware of this router somewhere that causes it to drop connections for linksys adapters.

It appears that if you are going to use Vonage you are going to have this problem. Therefore the only way to stay in business on your VPN is to use a stand alone router (The Linksys WRTG50 WITHOUT the voice ports works perfectly well). Then you put the Vonage router behind yours and just use it for the phone connections. That way your internet connection is perfectly stable, and your Vonage connection continues to drop intermittently for no reason at all, but at least all it drops is the phone conversation.

The real fix for me was Optonline Voice. When added to the TV and Internet access it works out to $15.00 per month for unlimited calls in US/Canada and you can actually have an uninterrupted conversation. As a side benefit, it also does not interfere with our radio receivers (the Vonage voice connection would flood the receiver with static whenever the voice connection was active).

I just received the Linksys RT31P2 today in the mail. I had to change out my Cisco ATA because all of the sudden I couldn't hear anyone on incoming calls but they could hear me. One thing I haven't seen mentioned here is which version of the router everyone has. Mine is v4. Has anyone been having a problem with this version? So far today I haven't noticed any dropped calls or connections (and I've been connected to another computer thru Terminal Services all day). I have noticed an increase in background noise compared to the Cisco though.

You need to look on the bottom of the router to tell.

I am having issues here too with disconnects, its the IP address getting reset by the router constantly. Ive tried everything here on these messages with no joy. Every time i call to Customer Service i end up getting disconnected so i cant get anything done (no other phone). The only way i can get my connection back fast without having to wait 2 mins is to go to the router ip and just save settings, that way it resets the router in 8 seconds.

Anyone know anything else that may be done other than use a nice 8 pound sledge hammer on the router itself? We cant connect to anyone for more than 5 minutes without getting booted.
