That's nice, but unacceptable, either way, the 1.27 update didn't fix it, and mine's still dropping out randomly.

It doesn't seem to be a restart though.. it just freezes and reconnects everything.

Ive been using the Vonage for over a year now and the linksys routers they give with nothing but hassles here in NY. I currently have the RT with the 1.27 firmware. My problem, which is a router issue, is that I must constantly click website links 2 or 3 times for a website load. Speed tests show 90-95% QOS with high download on the cable modem.

I know for a FACT that the router is faulty. You'll read why below

What Ive done to help the problem (doesnt solve it, but helps) is: I have the RT router into my cable modem. From the router I do not connect to any of my PC's. I connected an 8 port hub (office connect brand) into port1 of the router. I then connect my PC's to the hub. The router is able to detect the Pc's through the hub and overall the problems "appear" to be less. If I go directly into the router Im lucky if website load at all.

Back to why I know these routers suck: Prior to the RT router I had 1 PC acting as the "Internet Sharing" machine. It connected directly to my cable modem and I had another network card in that same PC that ran into an 8 port hub. I had my Vonage modem going into that 8 port hub as well as my other PC's. With that computer acting as my router (the Vonage router was never used except for the phone service) I had AMAZING speeds and never an issue. Unfortunately that machines hard drive failed and I never repaired it. I was forced to use the Vonage router.

Im going to try to buy a better brand router and connect the Vonage linksys into that and not use the Linksys RT router at all except for voice.

As for the Linksys resetting - Some cable modem companies have little spikes that last a microsecond. These spikes are due to outdated and poor cable lines in the area. I dont know if a surge protector will solve this problem but, the spikes do cause the modem to reset because it cant hold onto the IP address. I had that problem in the past and the cable company was at fault, no the modem. And if you connected the cable modem direct to a PC you wouldnt have that problem because the PC network card holds its IP differently. I only know from experience but like I said, once they fixed the poor cable wires my RT router never reset itself again.

Does anyone have a clear solution to this. I just started experiencing this yesterday. My disconnects are every 1-2 minutes. Any help would be appreciated.

Okay, after a firmware update about a week or two ago and whatever else may be, the router's still crashing semi-regularly (daily I want to say), same thing happens regardless of which modem I use so I know it's the router.. too bad the firmware didn't fix it.

On the line with them now, 26 minute wait, definitely better than last time (an hour) Very Happy -- looks like the 'device' will have to be swapped, phew.. I've been having this problem since day 1 so that'll be a relief! (way back in january)

*waits on hold*

OUCH. $100 witheld for replacing a defective box? That's kinda lousy.. they should have some sort of week policy or something to give people time to return the box FIRST.. not like I'd want to keep a defective router anyway >_<

Oh well, it's being replaced. I'll let everyoneknow how well(?) it goes Smile

OoTLink:

Beware of the replacement box. Many are recycled.

If you get a DOA, as I did, DO NOTsimply send back the DOA unit with a note to shipping thinking all will be OK

The old unit gets automatically deactivated. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I was w/o dial tone, and my horror story began.

Call CS at the slightest deviation or problem. Remember, they are holding your $99.

Oh yeah, definitely.. I've heard of cases where people's old unit got deactivated BEFORE the new one arrived... That would put me in an ugly situation (and yes I'm worried about that happening)...

If the new one is no good either, I'll be calling immediately *nod* thanks for the suggestion though! (didn't really think of this one)

When the RT31P2 is disconnecting the ports (first the phone, then the others) and after like a minute starts flashing the power light, then all port lights go black, then the Lan ports come on, then a few seconds later the phone light comes on,

This problem started happening to me a few days ago. I've only had the service for a week or two, and it was working fine up until then.

My firmware is currently 1.28.00 Feb 21 2005 and voice is 2.0.13(LIVd). After unplugging the router for about 15 minutes earlier today, it seems to have settled down and isn't doing the reboot trick anymore. Has anyone else has trouble with this firmware version?
