Finally! Your results look good there. Now, reconnect your WRTP54G and run the test again from the testyourvoip site and post your results. If at all possible try the Voip speed test from this site also and let's see what your results look like now with the WRTP54G back in the loop.

Once again, your results don't show that you're experiencing any significant packet loss or excessive jitter. Have you tried to make a call? What firmware version do you currently have on your WRTP54G. If at all possible, try the Voip speed test on this site again...I want to see if it will show the excessive jitter you had the first time you ran the test.

Tried the test on this website; got the error message here too now. Rats.

How could I find out which firmware version the router is using?

I did just try a call--line cut out 45 seconds into setting up my voicemail.

You can access the WRTP54G login page by typing "192.168.15.1" without the quotes into your browsers web address then hit enter. By default, the username and password is "admin" without the quotes. You can find out what firmware version you have by clicking on the "Status" tab.

That's not the most recent firmware but regardless, it should not be causing the issues you're having. Have you contacted Vonage about the issue you're having? Do you have a friend or neighbor that has high speed internet service that would allow you to connect your device to their modem and try a test call ? Whats the model number of your cable modem? Type "192.168.100.1" without the quotes into your browser and hit enter. This will take you to your modems diagnostics page. Click on the signal tab - What is your Signal to Noise Ratio and your Downstream and Upstream Power levels?

The modem is an SB 5120.

The upstream and downstream info is as follows:

Downstream Value
Frequency 633000000 Hz
Signal to Noise Ratio 36 dB
QAM QAM256
Network Access Control Object ON
Power Level 2 dBmV The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading

Upstream Value
Channel ID 7
Frequency 35000000 Hz
Ranging Service ID 6296
Symbol Rate 2.560 Msym/s
Power Level 35 dBmV

I do have friends here with high-speed internet and will try a test call--I will also brave the tech support and call Vonage.

Thanks again. I appreciate your trying to figure this out with me.

Your modem's signal levels are all very good. Your Signal to Noise Ratio should at a minimum be 30 or more, the higher the better. Your downstream power level should fall between -8 and +8. (In a perfect world, 0 would be your optimum downstream power level). Your upstream power level should be lower than 55dB. The lower the number, the better your connection.

I'd really be interested to see the quality of call you can make using your WRTP54G with your friends internet connection...keep us posted.

One last question about the channel: are the modem and router supposed to operate on different channels, or on the same channel, or does it matter? I note they're on different channels.

I'll report back after I make some test calls.
