I feel pretty fortunate after reading these posts. I purchased my Linksys PAP2 from Compusa for $50 with a -$50 rebate and a -$25 Gift certificate from Comp USA. This way, I figured I could return it locally if there was a problem. It worked great out of the box. Sound quality is perfect. No hiss, no echo, no lag.

Then when I signed up, there were no shipping charges (of course) and there were no activation fees. And then my LNP went through in 12 calendar days. Happy camper here for $15/mo. Surprised

BTW, this PAP2 I'm using sounds just as good as my Sipura.

Really? Can anyone else confirm there are really NO activation fees on the retail boxed products? When we first called to sign up, the Vonage sales rep said signing up via phone was cheaper because they would provide the phone adapter for free-- all we had to pay was $9.99 shipping-- as opposed to spending $50 for it at the store. If there is no activation fee with the retail boxed product, then we got SCREWED.

Dang, you're lucky. We sent in the LNP paperwork to xfer the number from Verizon the last week of November. Still no transfer.

Another Dang. We have 2 lines, and chose to get 2 adapters (instead of running 2 lines on 1 adapter) so we'd still have a line available if one adapter failed. The adapters have different types of background noise-- one sounds like a loud wooshing sound, the other sounds like the hissing noise of a dial-up modem off in the distance-- and both are annoying. I'd say you definitely got a charmed hookup!!

Again, can anyone confirm there is NO activation fee on the retail products? We want to order a 3rd line, and will go retail if that is true.

Yeah, but you get screwed on the rebate, read on and on:
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic1759.html

Plus you must pay sales tax on the full purchase price if you buy it retail.

You are much better off getting it online with the coupon found on this site and others. You pay less up front and never have to worry about a rebate that never comes.

And it comes all pre-configured, no messing around with activation when you buy it online.

Rebates do s$%k I agree. I stand to get paid $25 to use Vonage if I get the rebates of $75.00 due me. But it is a crap shoot.

There is no sales tax in New Hampshire where I bought mine.

Mine was totally pre-configured. I simpoly entered the MAC address located on the outside of the box, gave my credit card info. Plugged it in and once the lights went solid, I had a dial tone and a phone number.

Also in NH and no sales tax! However, I'm patiently awaiting my rebate from Best Buy.

But if you read the rebate form, you have to give 12 weeks AFTER your 90 day service window. How long have you had to wait?

http://image.compusa.com/pdfs/0012339.pdf

Code:
If you do not receive your rebate within 12 weeks after your 90-day Vonage service commitment, please call Vonage Customer Service at 1-866-243-4357 24 hours hours a day, 7 days a week, or e-mail Customer Service at rebates @vonage.com
